Plus, most of the pot smokers I've known were intolerable, insufferable assholes.

Perhaps you need to get out more Joe. Just a thought.

While one can legitimately disagree with King's views on some issue, how can one legitimately call him a horrible person?

He was a womanizer and he plagiarized portions of his doctoral dissertation are the two most salient reasons.

I realize that both tend to get overlooked as personal foibles by Europeans, but for those who want their heroes to be 100% saintly, he definitely did not meet that standard.

Yeah, and for some reason these people tend to vote for guys like Newt Gingrich and Scott DesJarlais.

Wanted to put this in the Good Post Gallery as well but

Context

You either don't realize or don't care when people are openly mocking you, but you keep feeding them anyway.  You're nearly thirty; how the hell have you made it this far?  At least BushOklahoma has shown that bare minimum of self-awareness.  You never have.

Interesting.  You don't really know the first thing about me, so don't presume to.

Besides, my views on pot sound pretty similar to yours on casino gambling.  With the exception that I don't think pot should be illegal.  So who's the sheltered nanny statist now?

Having been to rural Ireland, to me that only partially explains it, although I may simply have had better luck with rural Ireland than, well, whatever luck produced heatmaster.

Well no, but if I were religious I wouldn't. I live a healthy lifestyle, so there's no reason. Don't smoke, cut back on coffee, in the past cut out red meat completely, cut out soda completely, exercise daily, and so on. Read in Men's Health a while back that red wine in modest quantities, which is what I consume, is good for you too. If a person gives up anything it should be for health reasons - I mean a change in lifestyle - not because a Medieval pope whose concern was social control said it would be in one's best spiritual interest to do so.

You really need to get over yourself.

Breaking news: A stick of dynamite calls gunpowder explosive.

I would normally ignore this kind of thing, of course, because it's beneath intelligence, but sometimes the drama queen stuff goes on and on, spreading, and it gets hard to ignore when it's not contained to one spot, like the Forum Community board. You, for instance, troll, then calls others a troll. You demean with one-line, one-sentence remarks literally on a continuous basis, then tell others to get over themselves. It's really endless. And I'm going to just stop there. Maybe adult conversation and differing points of view are hard for you?

Whatever, man. Whatever. That's already far too much attention given to you.

I actually have a(n) (un)healthily low opinion of myself, but whatever.

You're missing the point, as you have a habit of doing. Your post was self-satisfied drivel designed to demonstrate your 'rational' superiority over all those dimwits out there who find meaning in ritual, tradition and ceremony. It was arrogant and unpleasant. And pointless. A great big FYCK YOU DAD!!!!!!!!111 with no content whatsoever. You could have left things at 'well no' and, frankly, should have done.

That's all.

I apologise if the above post is even nastier than normal. I have had a ghastly day (for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with the latest forum tehdrama, I should note) and am in a bad mood. I just find that particular attitude so aggressively dull sometimes. That's all.

This whole argument is truly excellent (in the 'dis gon b gud' sense). I am as one might expect on Al's side, but the whole thing is spectacular.

I'm disappointed in Al.  The proper thing to do was drop another searing one-liner in response.

Simfan, please go back to your old self.  I feel like I'm reading Lief's posts twice and that's not a knock on Lief, as I would feel the same way if Lief started posting like old Simfan.  There's too much Yin and not enough Yang on this forum right now.

Erm...

But yes! That's it! I was trying to be Lief! . I had not managed to concoct a complete worldview- it ranged from a latte liberal to a collegiate socialist. Given more time, a definite persona a with viewpoint somewhere within that spectrum would have emerged. But that was it- Lief!

I haven't really been around for months, and I can still tell that you've been trying too hard.

As with much of what Opebo does, it's idiotic.

Oh you're 'Ben'! - I was wondering who that was they were all loving in that popularity contest thread.

2nd whack at Ben

Did you used to have a different name?  Holden Caulfield or Frodo or something like that?

You're thinking of Frodo, who still posts.

I have a good deal of difficulty in differentiating both toadies and bores, so, please don't take offense at my forgetting you.

Christ man, have you no decency?  Even in this place..

Let me explain the procedure to you: you insult people in other threads, and then your achievements are enshrined here by your admirers.  You don't just clutter the place up with your dimwit.
