Not really. It probably just means the Delta 8 lobby outbid the lobby on the other side of the issue.

Almost certainly. They promised him some big donations while the Evangelical Christians slept on the matter thinking that Meatball Ron won't dare to veto a bill they supported.

Israel should have gotten the hostages by exchanging for all the Palestinian hostages currently in captivity. Engaging in barbaric acts of crime is never the answer. Negotiation is what sane leaders would do in time of crisis.

Reality itself is subjective, or so the Trumpsters would tell you.

Apparently the 200 Palestinians killed in an act of war (holding hostages) is the biggest crime according to the too smart for school WashPo. Sorry but this was fair game with Hamas hiding hostages in a dense area.

Hamas media are saying 210.

Israel are saying less than 100.

As someone previously pointed out, as the IDF were conducting the rescue, Hamas sent in another contingent.

That then raises a difficult decision for the IDF.

To protect the operation, the IDF nullified them.

You raise a really interesting point though.

If Mexico kidnapped 200 US citizens and the SEAL teams were went to rescue 4 live kidnappee's, forget the silver, they go for gold.

It is pretty clear that Israel and the US are working in unison on this. The US is getting some amazing research and intelligence from these operations.

Every decision involving the ultimate one to flatten the nearby real estate would have been part of the initial US-Israeli plan.

Easily one of the most amazing hostages rescues conducted.

The operation was named "The Seeds of Summer" suggesting brighter days to come.

Thumbs Up Brah! Almog Meir Jan was one of the hostages released alive from the central Gaza Strip (IDF)

"He said Israeli commandos, having forced their way in, seized the hostages wrapping themselves around them to provide protective shields before bundling them into military vehicles outside.

As they left he said they faced fierce resistance from Palestinian fighters.

Mr Hagari said Israel’s military had planned the raid in great detail, even building mock-ups of the two apartments to train in."

Possibly the best news for Israel since the war began.

The Israeli's are delighted. I have not seen them happier in the last 8 months.

So I've recently started a relationship with a Mexican (by birth) woman who is a legal resident.

I've always felt empathy for Mexicans even before I met her, but now, honestly, I feel even stronger in this regard - I feel that coming down against migrants is wrong, and that these people ought to be offered a path to citizenship.

The only arguments against migration are economic in nature and then many of those have racialist (worries about demographic change) or social Darwinist origins ("they'll take my job"). That's not to say I favor open borders, but I do think for those here who have lived a clean, lawful life, there should be some path. Tie that up with humanitarian aid for the border towns of Mexico or even putting down the Cartels by force if need be. I'd happy to see my tax dollars go to that cause.

So, no, I don't support this. And I wish Trump's stance on Mexican people was different, also.

I read a fascinating book called Against Empathy: The Case for Rational Compassion that made the case that empathy is weak as a moral compass because it is inherently biased since it focuses on the plight of a given person. You found yourself empathizing with Mexicans, but one could end up on the opposite side of the issue by empathizing with the right other nationality. My wife is from Colombia, a country struggling with illegal immigration from Venezuela, and my sister-in-law has been robbed by illegal immigrants on multiple occasions. The empathetic choice for me based on the people I see affected by the issue in my life would be to oppose illegal immigration and lobby for their deportation. I'm not saying my experience is better or more representative than yours, but this difference does seem to support the thesis that empathy isn't all that reliable as a moral rule.

Hope McGuire. Of course - he is very right-wing too, but - this "mostly Southside" district is unlikely to elect anyone else at present, so  - at least "slightly saner right-winger"

It makes more sense to link to this thread than bumping it.
