House votes to refer 2 former Trump advisers to Justice Department for contempt of Congress

Quote
The House voted Wednesday to recommend two former advisers to former President Donald Trump be referred to the Department of Justice on criminal contempt of Congress charges.

The House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol Hill riot is looking to hold Trump White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino and Trump's onetime trade adviser Peter Navarro in contempt of Congress for their refusal to cooperate with the panel's investigation or appear for their respective scheduled depositions.

The House vote was 220-203. Just two Republicans -- Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois -- voted for the resolution. The pair also serve on the January 6 committee.

This was a bench trial on misdemeanor trespassing charges.  The defendant presented a credible defense that he had been allowed into the Capitol by the USCP and did not participate in any violent acts.

The House select committee investigating January 6 appears to believe the Capitol attack included a coordinated assault perpetrated by the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys militia groups that sought to physically stop the certification of Joe Biden’s election victory.
...
The information, which could play a large role in establishing for the select committee whether Trump oversaw a criminal conspiracy as part of his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, is being viewed internally as a significant breakthrough, the sources added.

Most crucially for the panel, it could form part of the evidence to connect the militia groups that stormed the Capitol on 6 January to the organizers of the Save America rally that immediately preceded the attack – who in turn are slowly being linked to the Trump White House.

This is a very good and detailed article (not paywalled).  I would encourage reading it before posting any knee-jerk reactions on the question of a referral.

Without any movement but the DOJ, the voters have already tooned out not completely, it lacks the enthusiasm of 15 mnths ago, they already fixed the Security nomore will the Natl Guard no be immediately called for lack of Security at the Capitol if Rs get control Pelosi is gonna be out on Hot seat she is running again instead of retiring and she can't be Speaker again TL Jeffries is gonna be Dem Leader

Also if threat arises a fense in put up too

I heard from even Liberals out in Cali they still investigating insurrection that happened 15 mnths ago, really

Yes they are but DOJ are dragging their feet on Mastermind brains behind the Insurrectionists

Why do you think Rs are favs to win the H, the voters if they really were pressed about the insurrection would not be favoring Rs they weren't tired of the investigation

It has no impact on our lives with stimulus, gas prices and the War, Garland is taking it's sweet time because the Insurrectionists we're an imminent threat to politicians not to us

What's the likelihood of any of these things happening:

--Trump faces serious legal consequences from the outcome of this investigation.
--The investigation never concludes and is dissolved after the midterms by the new Republican Congress.
--The investigation concludes prior to the midterms, Trump is found to be criminally liable, the results are sent to the DOJ, but nothing of merit ever comes of it.

Change the 1st sentence to read "tangible" rather than" serious" legal consequences, meaning at least conviction of a low level felony or misdemeanor even if it doesn't involve incarceration.

1.  Closer to 1 in 3 than 50/50
2. 10%.  The members are acutely aware of the likelihood republicans will control the house after the midterms and of their stated intent to pull the plug on this committee as one of their 1st acts. However, there are no obstructionist trump bootlickers on the committee to slow its progress. I think they'll be able to get all all or almost all of what they need to get done before any likely  Change in control next January.  The biggest concern I have in this department, though, is  Whether they have sufficient time to litigate finding out about the more than 24 hours trump went to a burner phone, quite obviously, to help organize the insurrection.
3.  Unlikely judging from Merrick Garland and  Biden's seeming desire to Not go after trump and his highest associates to, you know, actually hold them accountable for what they did, otherwise republicans will scream "partisanship!" Roll Eyes. Plus admittedly  The difficulty in proving, despite trump's clear ethical, moral, and political responsibility for starting the insurrection, whether he actually Could be found to have committed any actual criminal offense beyond a reasonable doubt,  Additionally, even if they might normally prosecute Joe or Jane rioter for the same actions, I think the DOJ would want something bordering on a slam dunk case before indicting trump and risking an acquittal. For all these reasons I would sadly say the odds are well North of 50/50.

Liz Cheney Says Jan. 6 Panel Has Enough Evidence To Refer Trump For Criminal Charges
Quote
Cheney said that the evidence showed that those involved in planning the events of Jan. 6 “knew that they were going to attempt to use violence to stop the transfer of power.”

“That is the definition of an insurrection,” she said.

She said the panel has a “tremendous amount of testimony and documents that I think very, very clearly demonstrate the extent of the planning and the organization and the objective.”

That objective was “to try to stop the kind of electoral votes, to try to interfere with that official proceeding,” she added.

US Capitol rioter who said he believed he was following Trump's orders found guilty on all charges.

A January 6 rioter who claimed he was following "presidential orders" when he stormed the US Capitol and stole liquor and a coat rack was convicted Thursday on all charges by a jury in Washington, DC.

Dustin Thompson, a 38-year-old exterminator from Ohio, faced six charges -- obstructing an official proceeding, theft of government property, illegally entering the Capitol, illegally protesting in the Capitol, and two counts of disorderly conduct in the Capitol.

It's good the jury understood that President Trump was not issuing orders to anyone.

That's not necessarily what the "jury understood." The Orange Buffoon was definitely telling the crowd to go to the Capitol to start trouble.
The jury did "understand" that regardless of what "orders" any adult receives, that adult is personally responsible for the actions he/she takes (and thus, you can not blame your own actions, onto someone else).
