There is a huge different between split and GOP control. GOP gets to control all committees and determines what bills get to the floor. GOP can make sure Medicaid expansion never gets to the floor along with a host of other reforms.

I think at least a few state reps, senators would take a deal to vote for Medicaid expansion in exchange for something good for their district etc.

That ballot is definitely a vaild ballot for Yancey.
What I don’t get is don’t they know who sent that ballot in? Should just call him ask him to come in and say who he/she was actually voting for.

They have a record of who voted, but there's no way to tell the individual ballots apart.

Right, and I made it a point to state that the Republicans still control the state Senate. I would indeed agree that 50-50 matters if the Senate was also 50-50 or Democrat-controlled, but it isn't. Anyway, obviously I want to boot out as many Republicans as possible but I think that whether its 50-50 or 51R-49D, in practice things won't be that much different unless somehow a Republican is replaced with a Democrat in the state Senate sometime before Nov 2019.

Apparently they will settle the tie by putting names into black film canisters, and picking one at random out of a bowl or hat of some sort.

Yeah, going by Greedo's intent, voting for any candidates at all should be abolished and voters should just be presented with Straight Ticket D & R options (FWIW, I'm not entirely against this idea in practice, but alas - this isn't the law).

Discerning intent based on other ballot selections is only statistically likely to produce the correct outcome, but when anywhere from 5-50% of an electorate's intent could be nullified that way, suddenly it doesn't seem like such a smart decision.

That is one of the worst ideas I've ever seen. At worst just have separate (smaller) ballots for each office. And place each one in a different box. Of course when there are several different things to vote for it will make things hard but still. That way you can count each vote in isolation without knowing what that voter voted for other stuff.

Yancey was on Pascale's live stream as of a second ago (it just ended). They will certify the tie but it will be up to the Board of Elections to decide the method of the "lot" coin, straws, etc.

First tie in VA history.

Apparently not!

The ballot in HD 94 should have been discarded as an overvote but i digress. Republicans only know how to cheat in order to win. Even if simmons wins the coin toss which something tells me she will not Republicans will refuse to seat her and seat the incumbent.

The draw a name out of a bowl thing will only be a formality,  neither candidate will accept the outcome.

There is actually a similar case where a Republican was seated after losing a chance event that was supposed to break a tie a few years ago in Mississippi.

I mean, the Soros conspiracies are hardly any dumber than all the Dem hacks here whining about rigged coin tosses and "theft" of a race that is essentially a statistical (if not exact) tie, lol. The mirror images of Greedo whining about Washington and Minnesota.

Washington and Minnesota are both super fishy there should have 1 more recount in both races.
