Not mean to be arrogant here, but do these poll results sum up the stupidity of people?

I mean, it is correct that these charges are both politically motivated and justified. There is a political motive to not wanting a criminal to be President, but also this probably wouldn't have gotten as far if it were literally anyone else, Republican or Democrat. Trump has openly flaunted that he is above the law, so yeah it's going to seem political when the law tries to bring him down. It's a sticky situation that I think is being handled about as well as possible, given the circumstances.

That term to me implicates that the charges are either made up for so minor that no ordinary (business)person would be in trouble for. I'd argue that neither is the case. It's dangerous to suggest a pure political motivation because it continues to undermine trust in the justice system. Which really shouldn't be an arm of the political parties to serve their interests. Trump used the Justice Dept. as his personal law firm, and now he's projecting yet again on something he himself is guilty of.

I certainly agree with you, but the optics disagree as evidenced by the poll results. It's a lot less black and white than it being solely politically motivated or not, but it was always going to appear political given the players involved. It is true that the evidence supports the indictment, but half of the country could see a video of Trump eating a puppy and would argue he did not do that. I'm sure the DA's office was aware of the optics, and their decision to move forward anyway is admirable.

How likely is it that the government would have targeted Al Capone for tax evasion charges if that was the only crime he committed?  Yet I've never heard anyone argue that that means it was wrong to do so.

And prosecutorial discretion works both ways--prosecutors can decline to file charges they ordinarily would because of the circumstances of the case, but they can also decide to file charges they ordinarily wouldn't because of the circumstances (for example, because the person involved is a very dangerous individual and they want to get him or her any way they can).

Leaving aside the statute of limitations, I'm not really able to speak on that, I think there's a fair possibility that this goes to trial, but Trump gets acquitted, probably the outcome Bragg wants the least. Because John Edwards' case was really similar but with even more condemnable conduct, and he still won out in the end.

I definitely think that's possible too. It's very hard to predict right now. Maybe we'll learn some more tomorrow when we find out what exactly he's being charged with.

MTG, Gaetz, Rudy Giuliani, Bernie Kerik, and Mike Piazza may protest outside the courthouse tomorrow, so NYC is gonna be problematic to travel to.

My friends work in the city and they want to work from home.

Piazza's home run electrified NYC and the world on September 21, 2001, 11 days after 9/11. He's a conservative man, probably not because of that, but maybe. 9/11 made a lot of people more conservative, and Piazza was needed at the right time, he is a Hall of Famer.

He's always been a Trump supporter. Oh well. It'd look crazy to see him and MTG together, if it is true.

I read Piazza's book. Very religious - he used to travel to visit the Pope during the offseason. No surprise of his Republican leanings

I bought our Accura from one of the Mike Piazza car dealerships in the Philly area because it was 5K cheaper than anywhere else.

Piazza knows his base/audience: middle class people. Probably why he's a Trump rightwinger.

I really don’t know how they’re going to avoid a media circus. This is probably going to be the biggest celebrity trial since Michael Jackson.

Actually the polls sums up the position of a lot of people in this forum too.

Do they think it's a political trial ? Yes
Have they already condemned or aquited the accused for prior personal reasons ? Yes

It's no different than any other celebrity trial, where the public decides regardless of evidence, based on their prior personal views on the celebrity.

Deal those numbers as proxies for how a pollster would give the Biden vs Trump numbers.

WAPO's fact checker got fact checked by twitter LOL

Getting a donation during his campaign doesn't mean that he's being controlled by George Soros, which is what many conservatives/Republicans are insinuating. But you already knew that.

Didn't Trump also donate to the Clintons, Chuck Schumer and Kamala Harris back in the day?

It can’t be because he was the largest donor by far.

If everybody is an antisemite, nobody is. Stop using Soros’s religion as a shield against criticism of his donations.
