I was looking forward to watching him lose reelection. Now we’ll never get to experience such delectable schadenfreude.

He didn’t say he’s leaving early so there’s no special as of now.

Given the fact a few dozen voted against explicitly because they wanted the investigation to finish

Sometimes you wonder whether he's the product of a fiction writer wanting to prove that the most absurd things are possible.

I feel like somebody is now inspired to create a sitcom loosely based off of all this

It’s unclear how this affect the redraw process. In theory Democrats could turn NY-04 into an R sink and turn NY-03 into a Safe D seat, but that will be difficult to do as the Democratic vote in NY-04 is densely packed into Hempstead whereas it’s much more spread out in NY-03. It’s possible they make NY-04 a D sink and NY-03 a swing seat that Suozzi would be favored in if he’s the incumbent, but then D’Esposito would probably just run in the 3rd as well setting up at best an incumbent-on-incumbent matchup or at worst a race with D’Esposito as the sole incumbent.

Given his track record, this might be far easier than we think

No way this guy ever expected/wanted to win. He probably thought he'd lose convincingly and nobody would even bother to look into any of this. He's the political version of The Producers.

Anyway, re-upping this from earlier this year:

Santos will likely be the last person to realize that Santos is done.

So apparently, no other Republicans ran in NY-03 because it was assumed to be a Safe D seat under the original disgusting gerrymander and by the time that gerrymander was overturned and the special master map was finalized, it was too close to the filing deadline.

Looking back, I don't really buy that excuse. D'Esposito announced he was running in April 2022 and Lawler announced he was running in May. The Nassau GOP could have found someone credible in April or May. Why didn't they?

They didn't do their homework on Santos.   Also, likely at that point they weren't expecting the race to be competitive.   It was still a Biden +8.6, at that point Hochul was still thought to win going away and the district was only marginally more Republican than the previous district.

There's a non-zero chance that this ends with a reveal that Santos was a Nathan Fielder project.

Hopefully it passes this time, although I'm skeptical because Republicans don't want to lose a seat with a narrow majority and a likely loss in the subsequent special election.

A lot of members probably think he's such a huge liability that having him around isn't worth the extra seat.
