Thus ends a dark, but hilarious, subplot in the ongoing soap opera of American politics...for now.

Who were the Democrats who voted no?

We have the list now.

Dems Al Green (TX) and Johnathan Jackson (IL) voted present.

Dems Bobby Scott (VA) and Nikema Williams (GA) voted No.

So weird. I would've expected someone in a swing district to make an "everyone deserves their day in court" argument like last time, but Scott and Williams both represent safe districts. Maybe they figured that Santos staying in Congress would be more damaging for the GOP's odds of keeping the House in '24.

I’ll miss the content and how he made the rest of the Republicans squirm.

Santos-watchers of Atlas, I look forward to reconvening on the Off Topic board once he inevitably get a talk show or appearance on The Traitors/Dancing on Ice/etc, after the prison sentence.

Fun fact: Santos is the first Republican to ever be expelled from Congress.

He’ll be resorting to amateur porn before he gets picked for a show like that.

As long as it’s with Madison Cawthorne and Aaron Schock.

House votes to expel Santos from Congress

Quote
The House has voted to expel New York Republican Rep. George Santos over ethics violations, making him only the sixth lawmaker ever to be kicked out of the chamber.

The resolution required a two-thirds majority vote to succeed. House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that 311 members of the House voted to expel Santos, including 105 Republicans. Another 114 voted against the expulsion, with two members recording them selves "present."

All four top House GOP leaders, including Johnson, voted to keep Santos in Congress.

Santos is the first member of Congress to be expelled since the Civil War who wasn’t first convicted of a felony.

George Santos after House expels him: "To hell with this place"

Quote
GOP Rep. George Santos told CNN after the House voted to expel him that "it’s over."

“The House spoke that’s their vote. They just set new dangerous precedent for themselves,” he added.

When asked if he would still stay and use nonmember privileges because he is not convicted, Santos said, "Why would I want to stay here? To hell with this place.”

Pressed if he knew this was how it was going to go, Santos said, "I had no skin in the game."

And then he said, "You know what? As unofficially no longer a member of Congress, I no longer have to answer your questions."

F--k this guy is so funny. Not going to miss him, but we are worse off as a country without a guy like him in Congress.

Overall, there's a high correlation with those who have been in or expect to be in competitive races next year. There is also minimal or even no correlation with those who rebelled against McCarthy and then leadership. If these two groups coincide, it's the radical affiliation which wins out.

Ell. Oh. Ell.

This will probably have repercussions at some point. We've already had a dearth of GOP members speaking privately how Johnson hasn't been doing a good job, but lets be real, they don't want to go back to speakerless chaos.

This is just another example of this, the leadership failed to properly gauge the membership. If they did, no statements would be given and there would have been a dogpile of votes for Aye once everyone saw how the winds were blowing. Its another example of poor managements.

How much this comes back to bite Johnson's team though likely depends on their strategy for when the CR and foreign policy funding once again comes up.

Rudy Guiliani and Sarah Palin were both on the Masked Singer, which is much, much more degrading that amateur porn.

Suozzi might be slightly favored initially, but he definitely should not take it for granted. I think the Republican trend on Long Island is very real and not just a byproduct of Zeldin's strong campaign/home region effect.

He is innocent until proven guilty, we shouldn't be expelling people without due process.
They aren't even trying to expel him for his legal crimes. Like fruad, writing bad checks, stealing campaign money, etc.

They want to expel him because he is a clown who lied about...

-His mom dying on 9/11
-His grandmother being a holocaust victim
-Being Jewish
-Going to a prestigious high school he NEVER went to. In reality he barely got his GED
-He was a star vollyball player Baruch college. He never went to ANY college
-Starting an animal charity
-About being the first gay republican married to a man. He NEVER married a man. Only a woman
-Claimed he was an extra on the children's show "Hanna Montana"
-Had friends who died at Pulse
-Not being a drag queen

Like, how are folks on this forum defending this guy? There is no doubt in my mind that if Republicans had a larger minority he would have been expelled months ago. 78% of people in his district want him gone
If Santos deserves to be expelled because he lied, so do all members of congress.
How do you feel now that he is out?
