Tl;dr - he made up everything in his biography.

He lied, but he's both a Republican and a politician. This won't matter.

Remember, Ruben Kihuen sexually harassed someone and they let him stay the whole term.

You should read the story. He may try to ride it out, but the degree of lying is insane.

I did, it is almost comical to the degree to which he did. But the seat is likely gone in 2024 with or without him, and I doubt the GOP wants to cut their majority any more than they have to, particularly with the speakership fight next month.

Yeah, I agree that the incentives all point to Republicans avoiding a special election. Still, we have two unusual factors - whether the number of lies is going to lead to criminal charges as well as never-ending news coverage, and of course him being gay makes him unsympathetic, even icky to his caucus.

This one has to be close to the top, if not on the top, as a case of getting elected to high office with a fraudulent identity. Wow.

As I started to read the article, I asked the question of course as to where he got his money, given that where he claimed he got it, along with almost every other claim that he made, was a lie. But then the stolen checkbook down in Brazil for which charges are pending, and the heist of the money from the pseudo charitable event, and it becomes obvious. He's most likely going to be charged soon with criminal fraud and will be forced to resign is my guess.

Just why none of this has come out before is quite amazing. I guess nobody thought he was worth the time to do any opposition research on him. Given that he got elected he obviously has talent as a con artist.

And yes, his laugh is a bit off putting to me, and he comes across as anything but a policy wonk, but he does have talent in his chosen profession.

I still expect Santos to stay the entire term but this is a likely flip in 2024.

AZ 6, CA 22, CO 3, NY 3 and VA 2 218 and Ds win Gallego, Brown, Tester and Stephanie Murphy wins in FL that's 51/49 if Stephanie Murphy doesn't run it's likely 51)50 Sinema and Manchin loses and see what happens with John Love in TX Brown and Tester have 46/30 Approvals and so did CCM and Warnock you can't just look at partisan trends of state you have to look at Approvals

But Rs will swear they are DOA until they prove them wrong sgain

Was his seat an expected flip?

Because if it was you wonder what the NY Democrats were doing…

I'm pretty confident that Santos will either go down in flames or get entrenched Katko style. Nothing in between.

Majewski was triaged for less, which is pretty insane. Also pretty insane this didn't come out until after the election.

It’s kind of wild that he literally ran in 2020 too and only now did somebody decide to do this research—

If Madison Cawthorn could stay his whole term in his Trump+12 seat there’s no reason to think the GOP will be willing to hand a house seat back to Democrats.

If only freakin Tom Suozzi didn’t abandon this seat for a suicide for governor.  Did any Dems even try and talk him out of it?

Suozzi would have lost too.

He's not going to resign. He doesn't have the integrity that would be necessary to do so.

Maybe he goes for a suicide run against Gillibrand? Probably won’t even make it through the primary though.

And the GOP will do everything in their power to not have to defend a Biden+8 seat in a special election.

Stories like this are yet another indictment of the criminal underfunding of oppo research in recent years, especially by campaigns/organizations that absolutely have the money for it. Ralph Northam's yearbook another glaring example.

This alone probably won't be enough to drive him to resign but any potential investigations/indictments could be down the line - didn't read enough of the story to know if either of those are realistic possibilities.

Notably Dave Wasserman reported months ago that Republican leadership didn't want to touch this guy with a ten-foot pole, and just a couple weeks ago a close friend of mine predicted him to be the 2022 freshman (from either party) least likely to make it through the full term - so there does seem to be vague awareness that this guy is bad news.
