This basically means the DeSantis north Florida arrangement will most likely stay for 2024, since action won't be done in time for election deadlines,  unless the court itself adjusts these deadlines. Even though positive resolution seems likely, foiling the 1st DCAs attempts at hackery, the fact the that they did intervene means the pretrial agreements gears were successfully jammed enough to that the tentative schedule agreed upon is no longer relevant or binding.

I have no idea how you reconcile that with the Alabama and Louisiana decisions.

Seems pretty similar to the Jacksonville split in Florida, right? And that one's been found to be fine. Under Milligan, seats are only protected if it is possible to draw a compact performing seat where an outright majority of the population belongs to the minority group in question (which is not possible in northern Florida; even if you send tentacles to Tallahassee or Orlando it won't be majority-black). If it is possible to do so in Huntsville then it may indeed be a VRA violation.

Because it's Florida.

From a few days ago:

Had a look at the potential implications for the congressional map:

Call me skeptical that the suit is gonna succeed though.

I don't understand the argument about Latinos being too packed in Diaz-Balart's district. Wouldn't dropping Collier and confining the seat to Miami-Dade make it even more Latino?

Even if a redraw like that happened (doubt) I still think Dems would blow the races in the newly drawn Biden seats, especially the 2 in Miami.

Regardless of other issues, Diaz-Balart's district is ridiculous; there's no sense in crossing the Everglades when you can go into Broward County.
