Beto’s my top pick right now, but I’m gonna need to hear about some of his policy positions soon. I really want to be sure he’s not an empty suit, or I’ll have to go back to being undecided/tilt-Warren.

Stephanie Murphy also with the day 1 endorsement. If Beto locks up a bunch of the Suburban 2016/18 house class, he definitly has a credible claim to the mantle of 'future of the party.'

Really odd endorsements so far. First a random Anti-Pelosi congresswoman from Long Island, and now  the Blue Dog of Orlando Stephanie Murphy. Either Beto has really good ties from his years as a congressman, or...., yeah I got nothing, this is really weird.

I’m torn on Sanders/Beto. Mostly because I think they would have the best chance of beating Trump but also changing the status quo in the country

Only if by changing the status quo you mean welcoming our own Macron, riots and all

Bernie Sanders and Macron share very little in common.

According to 538, he also has Veronica Escobar (which is much more sensical.)

Seems like the strongest alternative to Sanders right now and that’s my #1 criterion.

I thought Kamala stans were not going after anybody running but Bernie. The fact that there have been more than a half dozen other white men jump in and none of them were accused of white male entitlement shows that they are threatened and trying to tear this man down for no reason. He has every right to state his case to voters. If someone prefers to vote for a woman or candidate of color that is their absolute right to do so but the lame smears are not going to make his supporters coalesce around your girl.

The gender politics around Beto though are worth acknowledging. Any female candidate who left her family to do a solo cross-country trip and write blog posts about it would get crucified. Beto's a strong candidate but he absolutely benefits from some male privilege.
Nah. We can have that conversation. That tweet wasn’t that. Calling him an entitled white male because “He lOsT tO TeD cRuZ” purposely ignoring the fact that he put the fear of God into the Texas GOP and made inroads with the EXACT type of voter we need in 2020 and misrepresenting his quote about being “born to be in it” is gaslighting.

Kamala’s crew was touting that “Vote Blue No Matter Who”  mantra and refusing to take swipes at any non-Bernie candidate until a real threat got into the race. It’s no coincidence she’s running to Houston for a rally next week.

Beto's got the good luck of being a privilege white male who happened to gain national exposure by nearly beating Ted Cruz. Now, I don't want to take away just how close we came to beating the most notorious GOP senator in red Texas, it's just unfair that after losing O'Rourke has to steal the spotlight again from more qualified candidates in the race. I think if he wants to be involved in politics he should just become the national state party chairman, or run again for either a higher office position, governor or state-elect senator.

I'm afraid despite his charisma O'Rourke won't have the guts to beat Trump in a election like I have the confidence in other candidates such as Harris and Booker.

I mean, even Enten is noticing an odd track with the endorsements:

Glad he finally got in. Strong second choice, probably who I'll end up voting for after Inslee drops out.

Go Beto, go.

Smiley

The debates will be fun: you probably have the gerontocrat Biden on the stage, next to young and dynamic Beto and Biden's poll numbers will fall by 75% after the first debate.

Initially, Beto was 1 of 3 candidates I was hoping would run. Beto, Biden, Sanders: they are the best 3 "disruptive" candidates in my view in terms of beating Trump and changing the electoral status quo, each in different ways and with different flavors, but nevertheless all potentially powerful. Biden's lost his sheen for me, though.

As time dragged on, I stopped thinking Beto would actually run given the Biden-like playing around/delays. Still with Sanders for now, but I look forward to his candidacy - and who knows, he might win me over (mainly because I think he has an Obamaesque ability to inspire massive turnout and substantial defections from Trump, and old Democratic candidates winning the presidency just haven't ever been a thing).

I’m not here for it. Beto literally said in his VF interview he understood someone declining to vote for him in order to get a female or non-white president. He’s just running his race and trying to avoid being problematic unlike others I won’t mention. Y’all are barking up the wrong tree.

Comments like this, whether from Hickenlooper or about Beto are troubling. We don't have a toxic division, we have a toxic party in the GOP. They need to be defeated, not "united" or "risen above" or "worked with".
Fortunately for the nation, it seems unlikely that this sort of foolish rhetoric is going to be winning any D primaries.

I'm neutral on Beto. I think he would be a decent VP or Cabinet Secretary but not President.

Also, Beto is more of a motivational speaker than President lol. Beto seems like he's being naive that if he became President that Republicans will care about "unity".
