I'll take it. Rouzer may have company his primary:

Hollis says he's been thinking about a statewide run for 6 years (!) but seriously thought about it for 6 months. Hopefully Cassidy comes out OK from the jungle, though as I've said before he's not my ideological cup of tea.

This one guy who happens to be a resident of Ascension Parish may run in CD6:

Add another name to the NC-06 R field:

Causey was the Republican nominee for Insurance Commissioner in 2012 but the incumbent, Ken Goodwin, hung on with a 52-48 win.

This week in the ad wars:

- Tillis launches his first ad touting his private sector experience.

- AFP gets the new year started on a good note with attacks on Hagan, Landrieu and Shaheen.

Clay Aiken (yes, that one) considering a run in NC-2. Something about the Carolinas and celebrity Dems. Tongue

He should wait till Price retires, likely in a cycle or two.

Social conservatives are trying to draft Perkins into the Senate race instead of CD6 and they're lining up monetary support for him.

If Aiken follows through with a run... Can he beat Ellmers?

I hate to say it, but most of NC would be hostile to Aiken because... you know why.  I hope he doesn't go through with this this year, especially in Ellmers' district.

Just seen a news story on one of my affiliates that said a city council guy from Indian Trail is trying to run as a Constitution Party Candidate against Hagan. That's not the news though,

he resigned from his spot, and wrote the entire resignation letter in Klingon! It quite angered Indian Trail's mayor.

A Perdue's  ex-Commerce Secretary, Keith Crisco of Randolph County, may run against Ellmers:

Apparently Crisco will be getting in tomorrow; this makes him the second Democrat, after Houston Barnes. If he makes it to the general, it will be interesting to see how many voters in Randolph County cross over for him.

I think at best, he would get no more than 40 percent. Randolph is one of the most republican in the state (probably the most republican with a population of over 100,000), and is more suburban/exurban than rural.

Landrieu 2008 vs. Obama 2008 in Jefferson Parish:

FULL SIZE.

For this map, I cut off a few precincts in the southern part of the parish (which are mostly sparsely-populated swamp/wetlands areas).

While Obama lost the parish 63-36, it was a good bellwether for the Senate race, as Landrieu won it 52-46. In 2012, Romney performed noticeably worse than McCain, winning only 58-40.

If Landrieu carries the parish again, that would go a long way towards winning statewide. To stay competitive, she's gonna need to be getting at least 47%-ish here.

Add another Republican candidate to the LA-06 field; ex-Navy captain Bob Bell, now a local tea party columnist, is running:

Cassidy raised $1 million in Q4, now has $4.2 million COH. I don't know how big Landrieu's haul will be, but I do know it'll be bigger.

Just seem the first NC Senate Ad of the year for a candidate, Thillis.

Sounded horrible and was scrunched up, not wide screen.

Dan Claitor is making some headlines over a state issue. Claitor filed the very first bill of this new legislative session, aimed at tightening rules for Tulane scholarships. Basically, back in the 1980's Tulane made a deal with legislature; in exchange for plush tax breaks, Tulane give scholarships to applicants designated by each of the 144 legislators. Obviously, that led to all sorts of graft and favoritism.

The right-wing hacks at the Hayride are dismissing this as an election-year stunt, but Claitor has been on this issue for a while.
