Given that these are actual criminals, seems entirely reasonable. Netanyahu essentially unleashing the settler mobs for revenge strikes is probably the clearest evidence yet that he needs to go.

Any sort of diplomatic assault on Israel right now would be a red line that would have extremely unpredictable consequences for the world order. This isn't that.

An end to Israeli settlements would be a perfectly reasonable condition for continued American support. There is no possible justification for settlements, especially if you are trying to work towards a two-state solution.

It would be wildly unacceptable to demand Israel evacuate over half a million people from the West Bank in the middle of a war. The Biden administration is not going to use the worst crisis in Israel in half a century to extort concessions from its ally.

@ModernBourbon your video says "English subtitles added by The Electronic Intifada" which I somehow doubt is impartial.  At any rate, the line preceding it is "we will annihilate the swastika bearers" which makes it clear who they want to "annihilate" (assuming The Electronic Intifada translated that term accurately... lol)

Dan Cohen has posted a lot of fake news in this conflict and you shouldn't get your info from him.

Is there any evidence that this is fake - besides "I don't like the guy who posted it"?

There's at least one Hebrew speaker who seems to indicate that it is accurate (saw a tweet by David Mivasair, a left-wing rabbi, confirming his understanding.)

Mivasair is not a Rabbi. He has a lot of ties to Jews for Jesus, a Christian supersessionist movement, and has made several odd comments indicating it. Just another weird little touch from JVP.

Wtf... Did Israel do this in previous wars?

They never had as many crazy low-level ministers before, that's for sure - but also, the emotions around this war are very different from any other.

Are you really trying to both sides this? Bruh

And several ministers have called for ethnic cleansing, a minister called for a nuke, and now this bizarre mess. It's almost like the current Israeli administration is evil and we shouldn't fund them.

The "both sides" absurdity is that one side has slaughtered children in the worst antisemitic violence since the Holocaust, and the other side has some ministers who make disgusting statements on Twitter that have no chance of becoming policy.

Some of the Israeli government needs to be put on trial for war crimes after this. We learned this the hard way after WW2, and need to make sure never again really means never again.

What Israel is doing right now IS ensuring that Never Again becomes a reality.

If the report of Hamas offering to release all the hostages including soldiers in exchange for ending the war can be trusted, I don't see how Netanyahu can turn it down - and how Gantz can refuse to a temporary alliance to make Ben-Gvir irrelevant.

Thing is, though, this will mean ALL the hostages - not "Oh, we can't find 70 of them". And then even when the war ends, I can't imagine Gaza won't start a new one in a few months with rockets and Israel won't treat it like a minor affair.

If I were Netanyahu and that were offered, what I would do is accept it.

And then I would immediately restart the war as soon as all the hostages were safe.

It would certainly be justified, but due to the world's rancid hypocrisy towards Israel, I imagine he would have to wait until there was a small but clear provocation from Hamas.

Why should maintaining a Jewish majority even be a factor? Nobody cared about maintaining a white majority in Rhodesia or South Africa. Israel should be held to the exact same standard.

Israel is not a colony. Israel is a nation run by its indigenous people. You will never disperse or overrun them again.

This is bog-standard war tactics when taking prisoners - especially prisoners from an army known to use suicide bombings as a tactic.

They're captured, thoroughly searched, and now they're prisoners of war. In the case of active Hamas agents (which most of these are), it's more than they deserve.

Really?

When did the US military do this?

Probably a few hundred times when they captured ISIS agents. Those wars weren't documented nearly as closely, nor were they constantly scrutinized by bad-faith actors looking to incite antisemitism.

You know they're mostly Hamas... how?

And you justify them sitting naked and blindfolded in the desert, after being searched... because?

They're not naked. Look closely and you can see their skivvies.

And they're mostly Hamas because that's...who Israel is fighting in Gaza. Are you under the impression that they're going around Gaza and taking random prisoners for giggles? That seems like a spectacularly bad waste of resources during an ongoing war.

Thank you for illustrating that Democrats clearly support Israel by a margin of 62-38, which combined with the even more robust support among Republicans, clearly shows why Biden turning on Israel as the activist fringe demands would be both immoral and electoral malpractice.

Yeah, I don’t think bombing Qatar is a good idea actually.

It would feel good in the moment. But that can be said of a lot of the Israeli strategy in this war, and yet...

Well if the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE do bomb Qatar, no doubt the largest US Air Force base in the Middle East will be indispensable to such an operation; I wonder which country that base is located in!

just annex Qatar, make it an unincorporated territory and offer the guest workers US citizenship which would easily result in Qatar having an American majority

What in the world did I miss... why do people want to bomb Qatar? From my understanding it's been one of the more peaceful, stable, and neutral countries in the Middle East? (compared to others in the Middle East)

Qatar is harboring Hamas leadership. If things went south, I could easily see it in Israel's crosshairs- but their role in brokering the hostage deal that brought almost all the children home likely put the kibosh on that, thankfully.

Biden hasn't been ( that chummy) with Nethenyahu for a while. This isn't new, dating back to the Obama days.

Yeah, and for good reasons. Netanyahu has had difficult personal relationships with both. I hope he's replaced by Benny Gantz or Yair Lapid soon.

I think right now Biden is being very careful to make his distaste for Netanyahu known in ways that won't poison the water with the inevitable Gantz government that will have a near-identical policy on Hamas/Gaza but potentially a very different policy on settlements.

Netanyahu is a right-winger who supported Romney over the Obama-Biden ticket in 2012. Why should Biden sacrifice his presidency and hand over the leading nation of the free world to a would-be dictator, so Netanyahu can drop white phosphorous on civilians? This is what has come to. Biden must learn to say "no", even if it's only to save his own skin.

Biden is not going to lose because he's siding with our long-term ally over a vicious terror group. He would lose if he did do that, overwhelmingly, if he was even renominated.

You get a straight A in strawmanning. No one serious wants to side with "a vicious terror group".

He's leaning too hard towards Israel and it's splintering his party's base. The number one rule of politics is you have to keep your base intact.

What is the proper balance to strike between our long-term ally, which has just been the victim of the worst anti-Jewish act of Genocide since the Holocaust, and the entity that committed that act of genocide? Because it looks to me like Biden is doing a very good job of that. Anything but "Total support, but urging a level of caution" would be electoral and moral malpractice.

He needs to call for a cease-fire and if it does not happen, withhold further military aid. Israel doesn't need it anyway. We have been Israel's ally for 70 years. Israel hasn't been our ally. It has caused the U.S. nothing but trouble and resentment in the Middle East.

As long as there is a single hostage left in Hamas' hands, there will be no cease-fire. If the US cuts off Israel, Israel will move to harsher measures to eliminate the threat as hard and fast as possible before they run out of supplies. Biden can continue on the path supported by a majority of Democrats and a super-majority of Americans, or he can bring us to the brink of war with a long-term ally in defense of a terror group.

So you are threatening that Israel will go to war with the U.S. of we don't hand over military aid? Biden should call that bluff.

Israel is free to "move to harsher measures"; the U.S. should simply not associate with it. And the rest of the world will start treating it like apartheid South Africa.

Why would he do that, when the vast majority of the country wants us to support our ally and Americans are still in Hamas hands?

"Biden should potentially damn the world to save our enemies" is, shockingly, a political non-starter despite the screeching of the Judenhass mobs cosplaying 1933 Berlin in our cities. If Biden actually wants to boost his electoral prospects, he would send in the troops and start charging people with felony riot as a hate crime.

Let's stop beating around the bushes and say the obvious:

Hamas has won!

Hamas knows that it can't beat Israel militarily, so it baited Israel into committing genocide for the entire world to see.

Israel is now more isolated than ever and every terrorist killed will be replaced with 10 new ones.

Hamas is a victim of their own success. They underestimated the damage they would do on October 7th and had no plan on what would happen afterwards. Now Sinwar is hiding in a tunnel under a refugee camp desperately trying not to get caught. Pretending this is some brilliant tactical coup by the Hamas leadership is such a big brain take that I'm not even sure how to respond.

Apparently they were banking on a three-pronged attack from Gaza, Lebanon, and the West Bank/Jordan that would have resulted in a full-on invasion and hundreds times more dead, including in the major population centers. In their addled minds, they no doubt thought that Iran would then join the fight while Israel was at its weakest. They succeeded only partway, which was the worst thing that could possibly happen to them.

The Chinese still needed British and American help to remove the Japanese. There is no external military intervention coming that can stop Israeli aircraft from bombing at will.

Without US’s protection, Iran would come right through the front door.

And there wouldn't be an Iran five minutes after that.

If nuclear weapons are not so hard to make, then why don't you have any?

This question is so stupid that I am not even going to dignify it with an answer.

Dude, just be honest and admit that you want Hamas to murder all the (((Jews))).  No one who has even half a brain cell believes you’re not a rabid anti-Semite.  Then again, I suppose you did basically admit as much with your bizarre fantasizing about an imaginary Hamas victory.

Those are your words, not mine.

What I want is for the US to cut off aid to Israel.

What happens after that is no longer the US's problem.

Israel and Iran can blow each other up for all I care.

Press X to doubt

Since you are having a tough time reading between the lines, let me just tell you...

I am less concerned about Israel committing genocide.

I am more concerned about the US being complicit in Israel committing genocide.

If the US stops sending aid to Israel and covering its ass, then it's much harder to argue that the US is being complicit.

It's hard to claim moral authority around the world when one is being complicit in a genocide.

Luckily, Israel isn’t committing genocide, so no worries on that front.

Even Joe Biden, a self-proclaimed Zionist, admitted that Israel is indiscriminately bombing Gaza.

1) Let’s say, just for discussion sake, that it were true that Israel was indiscriminately bombing Gaza with no concern whatsoever for military value of targets or lack thereof or potential civilian collateral and were doing this as a deliberate strategy (they’re not, but let’s say you are right and they are).  That would not be genocide in any way, shape, or form.  It would definitely be a brutal war crime, but it objectively would not be genocide.  That you seem to think it would be suggests you genuinely don’t understand what genocide is.  Yes, we all know you can Google the term and copy paste a definition, but you clearly don’t understand what it is or you’d have chosen an example of alleged conduct that…you know…would actually be genocide if Israel was doing it.

2) ROTFL.  I literally made that post as an experiment/test and boy did you flunk it.  I decided to make a lazy, one line drive by response with little-to-no thought put into it paired with a substantive, nuanced, detailed, and thoughtful response to your latest schtick and see what type of conversation you were actually looking to have in this thread.  Disappointingly, although unsurprisingly, you picked the one sentence section deliberately designed to be as devoid of substance as possible while not even acknowledging anything else in the post, much less actively engaging with it.  Really says a lot about what you’re looking to do here and none of it good.

Since you don't agree with the United Nations's definition of genocide, define "genocide" for me.

You’re only digging yourself into an even deeper hole.  Just put down the shovel and admit that you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Israel is denying visas to UN employees.

Coincidence?

That would probably be because of the revelation that UNRWA employees were cooperating with Hamas and in one case were actually used to hold hostages.
