Here's a little throwback to the legendary 2005 Elefantenrunde; you can click on "close captioned" in order to get a translation (albeit in Oettinger English):

Here is the highlight of the Elefantenrunde with German subtitles:

I know some German from high school so I was able to roughly translate this and I got a good laugh out of this. Correct me if I’m wrong, but if I’m translating this correctly she’s saying “Laschet keeps producing a**bombs every day, right up until the last second.”

Well, your translation is correct, but the point, of course, is that he set a very bad example by violating ballot secrecy - which (most likely) is mandatory - (because if your allowed to publish your vote, this will open the flood-gates to vote buying) - so probably, his vote shouldn't be counted, but invalidated...

Fettnäpfchen = (literally:) little fat cup / (roughly translated:) sandtrap
ins Fettnäpfchen treten = to put your foot in your mouth; to drop a clanger

And in order to understand the wittiness of that Tweet, you should learn what an "Arschbombe" really is...

Even the head of the Federal Electoral Committee had to comment on this gaffe. While it seems to be true that he was violating the principle of ballot secrecy, the local electoral supervisors would've been supposed to notice this and would've had to hand him a new ballot. As soon as his vote is in the ballot box, it counts.

It should be mentioned that Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Bullerbü are holding state elections today. In the latter, they citizens can also vote on a (non-binging) ballot measure about the communization of private home ownership following the GDR example.

Here's the relevant Tweet by the Bundeswahlleiter concerning the "nationwide known politician" Roll Eyes :

The "nationwide known politician" nevertheless committed a crime according to § 107c StGB.

A last minute Forsa poll shows that Germans' preferred post-election coalitions are Red-Green-Red and Jamaica, with Traffic Light in a distant third place:

I think such a poll would be way more useful after the election.

I wouldn't know how to answer such a poll question myself.
My preferred coalition would be SPD + Grüne, but knowing that that is very unlikely I might be tempted to say SPD + Grüne + FDP.

Not sure that means much. The answers heavily depend on how the question is being asked. In other surveys that asked whether a certain coalition is viewed positively or negatively, RRG had the worst performance followed by Jamaica. Only trafficlight was just barely underwater.

2 pm in-person turnout is 36.5% compared to 41.1% in 2017 and 41.4% in 2013, mail voters not included in these figures.

When will the VBM be counted. Before, during or after the election day vote is counted ?

VBM will be counted at the same time as normal ballots, but it will just take a bit longer since the envelopes have to be opened, it has to be checked whether all signatures were made etc.

But Germany counts its vote very quickly, we'll have a preliminary result tomorrow somewhen.

The ZDF livestream has a 3-hour timeshift feature.

Hubert Aiwanger, Bavaria's Deputy Minister-President and leader of the Free Voters, has shared confidential exit polls on Twitter, and now he might get into big trouble for that.

Major CDU overperformance if accurate.

CDU voters "tend to vote in the morning" so you might expect a mid/early-afternoon poll to look good for them.

This isn't necessarily in the order of highest to lowest though - can observe that Die Linke clearly has a single digit vote share but is grouped between FDP and AfD who both have double digit vote shares.

They did a very poor job of censoring the text you can read the numbers for the CDU and SPD if you zoom in.
