When will her primary take place? Does she have a serious challenger?

No, the primary electorate in her district probably has a majority positive opinion of Hamas, she’s going to win easily unfortunately.

She could lose, but it would require someone running whom the Detroit AA political establishment was willing to go all in on supporting.

It's really unfortunate we can't have a better group of Muslim lawmakers.

Did you think that other Muslim lawmakers would be any different when it comes to opposing the genocide of the Palestinians?

Haley and Stefanik remain the only remotely viable choices for ensuring Trump's election.

With Haley I can see some of the benefits, but why Stefanik? She's gone so far off the deep end that she's not going to do a lot that will help the ticket appeal to women and suburban voters, a lot of Republicans already dislike her, and Democrats are just going to slam her with ads targeting her past criticisms of Trump.

I agree that Haley is by far the best choice but if that does not work out, Stefanik remains the only "surrogate" option (after Noem killing the dog and her chances).

Stefanik's past Trump criticism is not a big issue imho as Trump needs to get moderates on-side and, for that, the VP choice needs to appear as a bridging move.  Of course, Trump's ego may get in the way but, if he manages to overcome that, one of these two as the VP nominee is what he needs to try and get elected.  If I was advising him (and I would rather burn in hell), I would just go for the original, not the surrogate - so Haley.

I’m sorry, but her staying out of jail simply was not worth releasing one of the most dangerous arms dealers in the world.  Even if she’d done nothing wrong and Russia had threatened to execute her (neither of which was the case), it still wouldn’t be worth it.

Lol come on, that's just monstrous.

If Al-Qaeda said they were going to execute an American civilian they’d abducted unless we released Khaled Sheikh Mohammed, should we have released him?  Would it be “monstrous” not to do so?

If so, then with all due respect, I think you’re being pretty naive and impractical.  This is basically a “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few” situation.  It sucks, but all the Bout deal did was send the message that if you take Americans hostage, you’ll be rewarded (especially if the hostage is someone rich and famous).

If not, then this is all just hypocrisy on your part and you need to do some long, hard self-reflection about why you see Griner’s life as inherently more valuable than that of any other American.

Outrageous, but our weak President won't do anything.

They knew the risks and accepted them. Why does Biden need to "do" anything?

Getting Griner released is better optics than having her locked up. Let the world see that America will fight for its people.

So we should give into hostage demands for a dumb person not happy making six figures and wanting to make seven figures but not respond at all to a gang that killed another dumb person who was actually trying to help people .

Your prior posts in this thread certainly implied that your demanding Biden drop the bombs was simply partisan bitching over Brittany Greiner rather than anything logical, but it's great to have such explicit affirmance!

lFromNJ never said anything like that in this thread.  If anything, I’ve been far more critical of Biden re: the Griner deal than lfromnj has.

Yeah I clearly said earlier I haven’t blamed Biden because so don’t exactly know what’s going on behind the scenes. The Kenyan force is a good idea at least and doesn’t risk American lives so it’s politically palatable. It’s very possible the Biden admin or someone has already asked the Kenyans to investigate this if possible.
Regarding Bout I don’t think he was that dangerous if he was due to be released in a few years. I think Putin did just want a propaganda victory more than anything else . I do agree it encourages future similar acts so it probably wasn’t worth it.

Bout had another 15 years left to serve on his 25 year sentence.  He wasn’t due to be released for quite some time.

It is definitely troubling, worrisome and tragic-horrible that there's nothing stopping some centenarian from becoming President.

Even more frightening is the fact that it's not impossible for this to happen. The president pro tempore of the United States Senate is third in the line of succession to the Presidency behind only the Vice President and the Speaker of the House. And since the president pro tempore is traditionally the senior Senator from the majority party, that person is usually super dooper old.

Had Jim Jeffords not switched sides, the months immediately after 911 may have felt even scarier.

Strom Thurmond was third in the Presidential line of succession when Jeffords did his switch and he won 39 Electoral votes as a pro-segregation candidate in the 1948 Presidential election against Harry S Truman.

President Strom in '02-'03 *and* with the pressure to "deal with" Saddam Hussein?

I doubt Thurmond would have allowed himself to become President at age 100.  I doubt that Chuck Grassley would accept the Presidency at age 90-something.

Pelosi would have taken the job, and she's not up to snuff.  She was once able to be President, but those days have passed.

What's the American equivalent of withdrawing the whip? Is there one? It's been well over a decade since I've bothered with Congressional procedure, so I've forgotten a lot of the little technicalities. In most countries there would be no need to ask, but Americans are so odd about anything to do with parties and groups.

It’s simply not available as congressional nominees are determined by primaries .

That's a candidate selection issue which is different. I meant expelling or suspending from the caucus, as this would definitely cross the threshold for that literally anywhere else.

Lieberman lost his primary AND endorsed McCain and yet was never expelled from the caucus.

Spent the day doorknocking, had 7 people raise to me the National service plan (all negative). Not since the dementia tax has there been such a poorly performing policy. It’s wonderful.

I would love to write POVs as well but given we are talking about Godoy it would be likely deemed as pornographic lol
