As someone with an interest in the history of US Foreign Policy there is a great deal to learn, this biography of Holbrooke looks not just at the career of one of the most accomplished public servants of the latter half of the 20th century, but of the deeper character. The author pulls no punches in describing Holbrooke as ambitious and sometimes cutthroat whose need to be liked was only second to his dream of being Secretary of State. In the final pages I began to tear up as the stress and frustration Holbrooke felt as he was sidelined by the Obama administration and his own personal failures along with the War in Afghanistan  led to his untimely death in late 2010. He began his career in Vietnam and he ended it in Afghanistan he saw the writing on the wall before many did that Afghanistan had the markings of America’s longest war. He was not a perfect man, far from it. He had scores of enemies at all ranks and levels of the government from Tony Lake and Zbigniew Brzezinski to Albright and Denis McDonough. Though one clear thing stood out to me, he was a product of a different time, he was truly the last scion of a departed generation, he was the last vestige of the generation of Harriman, Acheson, and Kennan the “wise men”.

No, and I will never vote for a Republican Party that venerates him or his memory after he is gone.

What is America supposed to do in response? Bomb Port-au-Prince? This is another reason why this extreme tourism missionary work is dangerous. Even if these people were 100% selfless and willing to die for their church school, their deaths have now resulted in knee-jerk calls for retaliation from some Americans, which puts both the US and Haiti in a bad spot.

The fact that this charity didn't immediately evacuate all of the Americans when this gang war broke out reflects very poorly on this organization.

Do you support or oppose the Kenyan led mission which is funded by the US? If you support it, why not ask them to help US interests and punish this gang first?

I probably do agree drone striking even if its strictly a gang would probably be too controversial internationally but why not ask the Kenyan police we are funding to help us out ?

FWIW its absolutely possible we are. I am not blaming Biden on this.

Yeah, I would be supportive of that. I don't know if any of the important questions related to this incident even have answers. The news coverage I've seen doesn't seem to indicate whether or not this was a coordinated attack or just roaming gang members killing everyone in sight, or perhaps looking for foreigners. I don't know what "retaliation" is supposed to look like, but granted I don't know much about this conflict.

If something like the ICC existed then you would have seen American, British and Soviet officials also arrested for war crimes which would have been insane.

Why is that insane? Do you think that the winning side of a war should be completely immune of prosecution for war crimes?

OSR just says stuff and then repeats it. He isn't built for the Socratic method.

If it does, alongside suburban educated whites, I think that's enough for Biden to win the same states again.

I don't know if that will be the case though. I highly doubt it.

It was never going to be a good crowd for Trump. Libertarian Party convention delegates are full of the real Libertarian true believers. Real idiot types. It would be like Biden speaking at a Green Party convention.

There are many types of idiots with political preferences, Trump seems to have discovered here that not all of them are automatically his type of idiots.

He could do three things:

1 Contrasts his healthcare policies with Trump's replace Obamacare stance.
2 Maybe compare his policies with American Health Care 2017 bill.
3 Talk about the public option.
