Half the country either disagrees or doesn't know/no opinion. And less than half of independents agree. Also asked whether the trial was far - 47% said yes, the rest either no or don't know/no opinion. Independents were at 42% fair. Based on this poll, clearly the country is not unified around this verdict.

It would have been too kind of the Tories to simply hand the seat to the Lib Dems.

Most likely, but I doubt Biden would've run.

Harry Enten has gotten so bad, it's really sad to see. He was literally just touting *yesterday* that the trial was making no impact (which wasn't a surprise to anyone given that there were no cameras in the courtroom and everything was filtered through reporters everyday) - he's a mess.

Yes, CNN has really wasted Harry.  He was such a good analyst when he was with 538.

I genuinely feel bad for him because he seems to only get trotted out like once a day for 3 minutes to do some crosstab diving or something but then his analysis has also been genuinely awful on the subjects so its hard to even feel bad for him. It feels like he stopped doing actual good analysis work and is just doing weird blah punditry now. Talent really wasted, and it feels like he's just succumbed to it.

I would like to see a poll that finds how many people think he's guilty and will still vote for him anyway

Good, presidents shouldn't be above the law. If prosecuting a president for a financial crime really tears up your country to the point where civil unrest is possible then your are living in a joke country.

I'm just gonna post some stuff I said las year that basically sum up my thinking:

Seriously, one of the biggest grievances that people all around the world have is that politicians seem to be able to do whatever they want and rarely have to face legal consequences. The fact that a possible Trump indictment produces such terror and arguments about "precedent" or some such bullcrap is pretty messed up.

Quote
Yes, leaders around the world have had, still have and will always have some sort of legal leeway to do things in some matters related to the security and the regular functioning of a nation state, all of this has absolutely nothing to do with regular crimes commited by a politician.

If you believe that a politician arrested and convicted for, let's say, embezzlement will lead to them being convicted for things related to actual national security then you are reaching fantasy territory.
For all your talk about "Law and order" you must think very poorly about your legal system, since you believe that, in the future, any politician that would be accused of anything would definitely be found guilty by the courts. Ironic because with that mindset, in Argentina you would be a defender of Cristina Kirchner and talk about judicial and political persecution

Let’s say Kasich won the nomination in 2016 and he beat Clinton in the general election. How would he have done in 2020? Would he have beaten Joe Biden even with the Covid pandemic?
