Based on the slowdown in this thread, I think “nothing burger” is a fair label?
He was indicted, how is that a nothing burger? Also the slowing down of the thread has to do with the fact that the trial isn’t until later this year so there isn’t much to post about until then

Because it’s clear that no one gives a flying finks about Stormy Daniels, and hasn’t since 2018.

Does anyone else think that they’re purposefully dragging this out so it has a bigger impact on the 2024 primary/general?

I dunno; I wouldn't want to dismiss the possibility entirely, but such investigations and trials usually take an extended period of time. Especially when famous people are involved that try to fight this nail and tooth with several high-profile lawyers.

Trump has the right to speedy trial if he wants one. Presumably though he wants to delay this as long as possible.

National Review FINALLY speaks out what many DeSantis, Haley Supporters and other Anti-Trump People are thinking: The Alvin Bragg Case is just the beginning of Trumps Legal Woes.

In a few months the Bragg Case will be considered the "Good Old Days for Trump". That's why nominating him in 2024 would be a complete malpractice.

https://www.nationalreview.com/2023/04/gop-beware-braggs-case-is-just-the-start-of-trumps-legal-jeopardy/

Fulton County will not only possibly indict Trump but his allies as well NYT Maggie Haberman is reporting.
Yeah, this is why I considered the recent is desantis's presidential bid dead thread and the constant stick a fork in him he's done refrain laughable. Yes, Trump has been more Teflon coated then almost any politician in modern history. But remember, his worst excesses came to light - think pussy gate - after he had already wrapped up the nomination, so the choices for such True Believers were to stick with Trump and project/ excuse his behavior however possible, or face president Hillary clinton.

Now though, Republicans have all the fascism of trump in a more electable package with Ron desantis. And I'm sorry ongoing indictments are a bridge too far for Republicans who want to win the White House and see that Trump will only drag them down in a way even he couldn't do so before. And considering the other contenders against DeSantis,  pffffft!  Lol!

Trump, Cohen Met in Oval Office to Go Over Finances, Indictment Says

Quote
Donald Trump allegedly met with his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to discuss parts of their "hush money" scheme in the Oval Office, according to the recently unsealed Manhattan indictment.

Trump was officially arrested by the Manhattan District Attorney on Tuesday afternoon and arraigned on charges relating to district attorney Alvin Bragg's long-running investigation into his alleged involvement in the hush money plan. According to the newly unsealed indictment, Trump has been charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records in an attempt to conceal a repayment to his former lawyer, who paid two women to stay quiet about affairs they had with Trump in the lead-up to the 2016 election. This included $130,000 paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges on Tuesday and is next scheduled to appear in court in early December as the case moves ahead. He has long denied that the affairs ever happened and dismissed Bragg's work as politically motivated. This is the first-ever criminal indictment of a former president in U.S. history.

https://www.newsweek.com/trump-cohen-met-oval-office-finances-indictment-1792590

I keep seeing stuff like "the first-ever criminal indictment of a former president in U.S. history". Where was this same sense of history when Donald because the first President in U.S. history to violate the Emoluments clauses? The first President in U.S. history to openly run a criminal organization from the White House? The first President in U.S. history to commit treason and attempt a coup?

The shocking thing is not that he's been charged with crimes, but that it took so long.

He certainly not the first president to run a criminal Enterprise from within the Oval Office. And he's not the first to commit treason either, though arguably certainly first to attempt a coup (in this country of course).

More likely Trump actually wants to drag this - and all his many legal problems - out, because he full well understands people tend to have short attention spans and everyone get tired of this stuff. Or it just gets normalized over time. That's his calculus.

No he got Acquitted on the Mueller probe and no one is looking into Russian Collusion anymore but Trump colluded with Hillary that Manafort went to jail over Hillary campaign, and he thinks that he will be Acquitted on this or become Prez

It's all Trump fault we are in War with Russia, he had the MS American padgent in Russia with Stormy Daniels, his wife is Ukraine and he cheated on her and she didn't leave him and he blamed Hillary for not leaving Bill

But, D's can get rid of Hunter Biden by nominating RFK he is very likely to run again in 28 anyways and become Nominee over Harris in 28, she is weak not as Veep but for Prez

We know RFK isn't antvaxx the RS are antivaxx

Users think that RFK won't run if he is defeating in 24 no one thought Bernie would run twice, he did and so can RFK

Manhattan DA Bragg sues GOP House Judiciary chairman to prevent interference in Trump case

Quote
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is suing House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican, over what the lawsuit describes as a “transparent campaign to intimidate and attack” the district attorney and interfere in his office’s case against former President Donald Trump.

Bragg is seeking to block a subpoena for testimony from Mark Pomerantz, a former senior prosecutor in his office, as well as other demands for “confidential documents and testimony from the district attorney himself as well as his current and former employees and officials.”

“Chairman Jordan’s subpoena is an unconstitutional attempt to undermine an ongoing New York felony criminal prosecution and investigation. As our complaint details, this is an unprecedented, illegitimate interference by Congress that lacks any legal merit and defies basic principles of federalism,” Bragg said in a statement.

Jordan subpoenaed Pomerantz late last week for his role investigating Trump and his business empire – as House Republicans have sought to frame the recent indictment against the former president as politically motivated.

Not that TheReckoning is a serious person, but the 24-hour news cycle has poisoned people's brains. And there's also the fact that the American legal system famously moves at a glacial pace, and there's been a huge backlog since the pandemic.

Jordan really has no shame. I hope the judge slaps him on the head.

Maybe this thread should be unpinned, given how it’s not really a topic of any real discussion anymore, and won’t be for a while? Just a thought…

Trump sues Michael Cohen for $500 million, alleging ex-attorney breached his contract

Quote
Former President Donald Trump is suing Michael Cohen for $500 million in damages for allegedly breaching his contract as Trump’s former personal attorney.

The lawsuit, filed in a Florida federal court on Wednesday, accuses Cohen of spreading false information about Trump and breaching his contractual obligations to the former president in Cohen’s public statements, published books, podcast series and other media appearances.

CNN has reached out to Cohen for comment on the lawsuit.

Cohen, Trump’s onetime “fixer,” has recently reentered the national spotlight after Trump pleaded not guilty last week to 34 charges of falsifying business records following an investigation into hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels. The payments were coordinated by Cohen in the days before the 2016 election, and Cohen’s cooperation with prosecutors has drawn the ire of the former president.

Federal judge denies Manhattan DA’s request to block House GOP subpoena of ex-prosecutor

Quote
A federal judge on Wednesday denied a request by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office for a temporary restraining order to stop a House Judiciary Committee subpoena of former prosecutor Mark Pomerantz.

District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil said Pomerantz must appear for a deposition.

“The subpoena was issued with a ‘valid legislative purpose’ in connection with the ‘broad’ and ‘indispensable’ congressional power to ‘conduct investigations.’ It is not the role of the federal judiciary to dictate what legislation Congress may consider or how it should conduct its deliberations in that connection. Mr. Pomerantz must appear for the congressional deposition. No one is above the law,” Vyskocil wrote after hearing arguments in court on the matter earlier in the day.

Bragg’s office had indicated it would likely ask the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals for a stay if Vyskocil sided with the committee, but did not have an immediate comment.

This was a Trump-appointed Judge and the stay will be granted.

Wasn't Pomerantz the one (or one of the ones) who resigned because he thought Bragg wasn't being aggressive enough in charging Trump, or am I misremembering?  His testimony might not turn out the way the House committee is hoping for.
