This was obvious for some time now, but Daines made a deal with Trump. Back Trump and Trump will promise not to screw up the senate. For Daines, it’s a win win. Run a bunch of generic candidates and count on Trump to turn out the neck beards. Get 51 seats in a 2020 redux or get 55 in a Biden implosion. I’m sure he doesn’t even care if Trump wins.

I think Kari Lake was sorta part of the deal. There is a reason no one establishy has gotten in the race

Rosendale is a clueless idiot. Why run and throw away your house seat?

He's not. Trump will endorse him, and then he'll win the primary and defeat Tester.

Oh. In that case, stick a fork in Rosendale.

Done and dusted. Tester will have a very tough race ahead of him facing Sheehy.

Sheehy has no chance, he'll even lose the primary by a large margin.

Nothing in the world can make Sheehy Montana Senator, he should run in the North East.

Sarcasm ?

He has the Trump endorsement and fundraising advantage.. he'll easily win the primary.

General is a tossup at best, Tester is going to outrun Biden by 15-20 points in margin given the traditional anti incumbent swing in Montana.

Who's going to vote for Sheehy in Montana ?

It's not Bedminster New Jersey.

In Montana: Rosendale or Tester wins, there is no 3rd option.

The NRSC obviously wants to lose.

I'm not sure what you're basing your aversion for Sheehy on.. but OK lol.

He'll win the primary and has a good chance in the general during a presidential year.

Sheehy has a chance now but I don't know if even a Trump endorsement can save him. All Rosendale has to do is paint him as an out of touch politician the establishment is trying to coronate. The only thing in his favor is Rosedale is not a good fundraiser apparently.

I actually think Sheehy is the weaker candidate against Tester. Rosendale will have been a Congressman for four years, so I doubt the "Maryland Matt" attacks would be as potent this time. That being said, it likely won't matter. Consider that if Tester had faced the 2020 electorate in his last race, he would have lost by 9 points. That should keep his team up at night.

Could have been important to Trump and a compromise Daines was willing to make to keep toxic candidates out of the three red state races. Could have been that Daines didn’t think Lake would be as bad as she turned out to be. Could be that they viewed 8 other seats as more important to the majority so Daines does not really care.

Sheehy is better because he is a self funder so the RNC likely won't have contribute much resources on the race.

Authentically, wow. I know Daines wants to be Senate Majority Leader, but I think he potentially needs to take one for the team and be Trump's WHCoS. The extent to which Trump has been making better decisions since becoming close to Daines is absolutely remarkable.

It's one of those races where no money in the world can change the outcome

I don’t think it’ll happen, but it would be interesting if Ryan Zinke pulls a Lauren Boebert and switches to MT-02 (a much more safe R seat). And unlike Boebert, Zinke actually represented this entire “district” in the past (when Montana had an at-large seat).

It's official

Some thoughts:

1. The Jan. 6 support is pretty good for a primary I guess, but a Republican in a competitive race shouldn't be doing that if looking forward to the general - unless he thinks the general will be a cakewalk.

2. He didn't mention Tester once in this campaign announcement - likely because Montanans like Tester. Much easier to attack Biden instead.

3. Wow, he has a really squeaky voice for a tough guy lol. Also, why does he pronounce "Montana" like that? MontAHHHeghna

Dianes, a great campaigner, under perform Trump by 6 points.

He was against the then-sitting, popular governor of Montana. The fact that he still won by 10 points is impressive.
