It's astonishing to me that trump would get his employees (some in low-er positions) to help him to hide crimes (and thus create new crimes). He cares nothing about them, and does not mind putting them in serious peril of the justice system.

And ... trump is not a very good fraudster or "mob-boss", if he is involving these low-level employees, who can most easily be persuaded to "talk" and reveal the crimes. It's just not smart of trump; he is an idiot.

Btw this indictment confirms the DOJ has the classified document Trump was waving around at Bedminster and is the subject of the recording they have that CNN obtained. Moreover, they have a witness saying that it was actually that document he was waving around (so not newspaper clippings, etc).

Yuscil Taveras, a Mar-a-Lago employee who oversees the property’s surveillance cameras, received a target letter from federal prosecutors after former President Donald Trump was first indicted in June on charges related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents after leaving office, sources told CNN.

Taveras also met with investigators following the initial indictment in the classified documents case overseen by special counsel Jack Smith, sources said.

While it is unclear whether Taveras is cooperating with prosecutors, some of the new allegations against Trump that were included in a superseding indictment filed last week were based, at least in part, on information he provided during that interview, CNN has learned.

Many repubs keep saying, "Well Hillary didn't get charged for her emails." I agree with Bill barr's rejection of that argument. They should've prosecuted Hillary, but if it was wrong for Hillary to get off, then it would be wrong for Trump to get off too. The way to correct the mistake of letting Hillary get off is to get it right with any violators going forward

the basic argument being made here is that Hillary Clinton was let off [after using a private email server for classified information as Secretary of State], therefore it is a double standard and therefore you should let off Trump. And I don't think that that's a frivolous argument, but it's hard for me to fault the decision to go forward because, to me, the solution to a double standard is to apply the right standard in a case and try to apply it going forward, even handily."

I don't think the way to stop the double standard is to keep on perpetuating it by having equal injustice. The argument that Hillary should have been prosecuted, well, what was unjust is Hillary was not prosecuted. What is unjust is not prosecuting Trump at this stage. How do you control and protect classified information going forward? You just prosecute the little guys, but you let the big guys get off if they flipped the bird at the government? I mean, I'm not sure where that takes us.

The prosecutors/DOJ got-it-right with Hillary Clinton (nothing there), and they are getting it ALL correct now with trump.

Former President Donald Trump, in a court filing Friday, pleaded not guilty to the new charges special counsel Jack Smith brought against him in the case alleging mishandling of classified documents from his time in the White House.

The filing marked the second time in 24 hours that the former president entered a not guilty plea, following his arraignment Thursday in the special counsel’s separate investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Last week, Smith charged Trump, who had already faced 37 criminal charges in the classified documents case, with one additional count of willful retention of national defense information and two additional obstruction counts. He also filed new charges against Walt Nauta, the former president’s aide, and added Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira to the case.

So any hope that Cannon may have learned her lesson can probably be dashed. She asked the defense to consider an argument she (likely) heard on Fox News that neither party brought up. She wants both sides' take on evidence from the DC grand jury being used in this case since a FL grand jury indicted. There's nothing wrong with that since the crime occurred there too.

Imagine traveling back to 2015/16 when Hillary's e-mails were a thing for Republicans, only replace the name "Donald J. Trump" with "Barack H. Obama" in the original papers (investigations and indictment) and tell Republicans you're a time traveler from a few years when a former president (supposedly Obama) was indictment over taking classified documents and refusing to cooperate with law enforcement. How would Republicans react?

Spoiler: They would have called for punishments I don't feel comfortable writing down here.

You do know that Biden didn't order this right? The FBI acted on its own. Thats how law enforcment works. The mayor of some small town can't order local police to arrest anyone.

In fact the man Biden appointed AG, Merrick Garland, delayed any Trump investigations and nearly shut it down just to avoid it looking like Biden ordering an investigation of Trump.
