The cartoon s display the proper degree of contempt for Sandy Cortez, who is contemptuous of the majority of American citizens.

I'll never understand why conservatives think calling her by her nickname is some kind of insult. Lots of people go by a more formal name professionally than they do in their personal life.

I refuse to allow her the status of an HHH or a RFK.  Calling her AOC elevates her to undeserved status.

And what "status" is that exactly? The status of people who have got a name and as such also initials?

HHH and RFK had an understanding of the whole of American life and the lives of America's people.  Sandy Cortez is a shallow college coed who did nothing of note except note the changing demographics of her Congressional District and have the nerve to primary the powerful Joe Crowley.  She's working to drive liberalism off the rails to where it no longer seeks to help actual working families.   When she's gerrymandered out of her district and becomes a rich talking head her lack of actual liberal accomplishments will be her lasting legacy.

OK, fine, but calling her "Sandy Cortez" instead of "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez" isn't an insult and you look like a fool for acting like it is.

Kinda shows how schizophrenic the modern GOP is when you have two Rwers posters criticizing AOC for contradicting things with one side calling her a communist for attacking big business (OC) and another saying she doesn’t do anything to help working families (Fuzzy)

FDR became FDR and started the initialism trend because most people associated 'Roosevelt' with Teddy and newspaper editors didn't want to write 'Franklin Roosevelt' and take up too much space in headlines. LBJ forced his initials because he was a cynical politician trying to capitalize on the popularity of FDR. The Kennedy Brothers and Humphrey got initialized because that was Democratic tradition at that point, and it didn't exactly catch on for your boy HHH, which is an acronym most people these days associated with a professional wrestler best known for gesturing towards his crotch; unlike FDR, Humphrey had no pragmatic reason to use his initials.

It's not that big of a deal, and initials aren't as prestigious as you think. They fell out of fashion because few politicians since the Kennedy era have had a practical reason not to use their name, and even fewer major politicians have had initials that sound good to pronounce. WJC and BHO don't sound as good as Bill Clinton or Barack Obama.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is, like Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a long name. It's easier to type 'AOC' than 'Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez' every time she's discussed, which like it or not, is often. Unlike FDR, who can accurately be referred to as 'Franklin Roosevelt' or 'Roosevelt' in addition to 'FDR', AOC cannot be accurately referred to as 'Sandy Cortez' or 'Cortez' or even 'Alexandria Cortez', because her last name isn't 'Cortez'. Her last name is 'Ocasio-Cortez', which is long to type and takes six syllables to pronounce, even without her five syllable-long first name, as opposed to the three letters and three syllables it takes to use 'AOC'.

Regarding your emphasis on 'Sandy', well that's just stupid; she hasn't gone by Sandy since high school, it's not her given name either, so the only reason to use it is to disparage her. If you want to disparage her policies, fine, but a names a name. You're no different than people calling your prophet Trump 'Drumpf', 'tRump', '45' or anything else. There are plenty of liberal politicians you hate, whom you think are unqualified, but you still use your names; the only one you single out by refusing to use their name happens to be a young Hispanic woman who you think is too ambitious for doing what any American citizen over 25 is allowed to do by the Constitution.

There is no practical reason not to say 'AOC'.

Aaaand it's worth pointing out that this very U.S. General Discussion board contains a recent thread started by a red-avatared poster titled "MTG Suggests Democrats Moving to Red States Get 'Cooling Off Period' Before Voting". Nobody seems to call MTG "Margie Greene" or something like that, proving that "both sides" do in fact not do it.

Haha, it's true her critics will often layer on a coating of horny creepiness into their criticism of her.

Take the wonderfully deranged Ben Garrison for example, who hates her with a passion, and yet… drew, uh, these:

The cartoon s display the proper degree of contempt for Sandy Cortez, who is contemptuous of the majority of American citizens.
It’s stunning how you somehow managed to completely miss the point of his post. It’s clear that Ben Garrison is trying to portray AOC as a slut who’s trying to use her good looks to dupe Americans into accepting socialism, which suggests that Ben Garrison thinks about her sexually

If that's the point you think he's making, fine.  I don't think that, but s that's where your mind went, your statement is more about yourself then the cartoonist.

The metaphor is valid.  Socialist dogma is seductive to certain folks who want free stuff.  The devil, of course, is always in the details, and Sandy Cortez deliberately keeps the details of her plans vague.

He drew her in a skimpy, tight crop top in one cartoon, and her tits completely out in another, but oh no you’re far too pure to notice that.

The conservative obsession with AOC is indeed creepy. She's not even a threatening individual. She's never made death threats or tried to incite violence, yet conservatives have this insane obsession with her as if she is a threat to democracy or society. And the interest in her boyfriend is completely beyond anything to do with politics. At some point someone had actually found his or his family's home and you know that is just downright disturbing.

The problem with social media is that some high-profile idiot can always be relied on to put his foot in his mouth in such a way that AOC can get away with throwing another public tantrum to the effect of: "Oh, so you want to f[inks] me?"

At this point the schlubby boyfriend fits so well into the act that it's as if he's deliberately playing up the messiness for the sake of trolling the paparazzi. The dunks on these guys for getting horny on main are always great for distracting from substantive points, in this case being that AOC was comfortable travelling to "free Florida" and not fearful that she would come back infected. (Even the focus on masking is a red herring.)

Can we alternatively just say this was incredibly stupid dunk on her to begin with considering she was both outdoors and actively eating and drinking? I mean as in sub brain dead level stupid?

How does calling her by her initials elevate her in anyway. She and the entire TYT caucus in the House all suck regardless

I think they should be viewed differentiated. Omar and Tlaib absolutely suck and should be primaried out, but AOC isn't that toxic and at least an important voice for the progressive left. So are Ayanna Pressley or Bernie and Warren in the senate. At least they raise some fair points what's wrong in the system. Whether you completely agree with their proposed solutions is another matter. Nonetheless, from a Democratic standpoint the troublemakers are Manchin, Sinema and Gottheimer who derail Biden's agenda. The few House progressives only voted otherwise when it didn't matter.
