Zinke is right, but not in the way he thinks. The average “cowboy” today is a poorly paid, overexploited undocumented worker forced to live and work in squalid conditions in some giant factory complex in Greeley just so he can send a tiny bit of money back home so his children don’t starve.

Large corporate food giants have been swallowing up small farms and ranches for decades. What was once a family business has become more or less industrialized. This does have benefits for consumers, but it royally screws the ranchers and farmers. The laissez faire policies of Zinke’s party ironically likely have helped accelerate this shift.  And it’s just made worse because you know those corporate giants have a long list of lobbyists to choose from here in DC, while at best the local farmers and ranchers may have the support of a couple barely alive non-profits.

What both Zinke and Dull Tachi fail to mention is the most important actor here, corporate food producers. (Who are almost certainly buying Zinke out now) Of course they can’t say that, so they just blame the rules rather than the thieves.
Certain environmental regulations of course don’t help these ranchers, but the real story of the past decades is not one of regulation, but rather one of corporatism and the natural progression of a shifting economy.

I have no idea what this bill was about, but the American cowboy killed the American cowboy. You can only have a frontier so long as land is new and undiscovered.

It is probably because all the records that we have are digitized now so they don't need to be maintained by historians, and recent events produce a metric ton of data that is permanently archived. There is a loss in the sense that we are not learning as much history but no info is lost and it is all retrievable, so this course could be reversed at any point. A bigger problem would be if archaeology is slowing down since the clock matters there.

This is such an immensely stupid post that I'm mildly surprised that you're alive to have made it at all, as surely the allure of bathtime toast ought to have finished you off by now.

I'm going to break my silence here since this forum needs the opposite viewpoint on this issue to the American echo chamber. Whether this balloon is a weather balloon or a surveillance balloon doesn't really matter since its flight over the US is what matters and that is no accident. This is a glorious result and I 100% support this move as it is a worthy, proportionate, and measured retaliation against the endless American provocations and insults against China. Even better that it forced Blinken to cancel his trip, putting the blame on him and making him look like a petulant child in the eyes of the world.
