Context:
That's almost historical revisionism. The communist regime in North Vietnam invaded the sovereign country South Vietnam for the purpose of uniting the country under a brutal dictatorship, with the help of the Soviet Union and Red China. Not that the Saigon regime was great, but still superior to the North. The United States helped that country to maintain its sovereignty and win a propaganda battle in the context of the Cold War.

While the US better should have withdrawn in 1965, it annoys me that certain people pretend everything bad that happened was only on America. There were many, many diplomatic attempts under the Johnson Administration alone to negotiate a peace if the North simply accepted the South's sovereignty. They never cared about a diplomatic solution, committed war crimes as well and sacrificed many thousands of their fighters on purpose; like knowing the Tet Offensive was going to fail militarily, but send their boys to death anyway. Let's not pretend this is a one way street.

No? At all? The concept that the South Vietnamese government was any better than the North, or more importantly that most of its citizens wanted unification, rather well established.

You've said before you think the media is heavily biased towards Trump and his allies, what would you say is the most egregious example of this?
Treating Clintons emails in 2016 as a major scandal instead of as politicians engaging in business as usual.

There are more antisemites on the right, and they're more likely to admit it and get violent.

While black swans on the left like Corbyn are a rare thing, the sheer number of left-wingers who are willing to cooperate with them and choose to sacrifice our welfare is incredibly worrying and the sign of a disturbing trend.

And then there's the cases where it's impossible to tell what side someone is actually on, because their politics mainly seem to be "socialism, but more racist".

Click thread for context

Of course not. You can criticise them heavily, but “enemy of the people” is such a hideous, hideous phrase.

It's an exaggeration. The Israeli government treats Palestinians poorly, no question, but not on the level that the South African government treated blacks under apartheid.

And just because it's not literally bad as apartheid doesn't excuse it - don't misunderstand me on that.

If anyone needed further evidence that the Republican Party (and all of its voters) is the enemy of the people, look no farther than Cheney's oust from leadership...simply for telling the truth and taking a stand against domestic terrorism.

Republicans are traitors to American democracy and I will never stop saying it.

I love Austrians. They've managed to convince the world that Hitler was German and Beethoven was Austrian.

All that matters in modern GOP politics is unconditional devotion to the orange buffoon. Doesn't matter if he mocked and ridiculed your own father and uncle on live TV.

Both of these

Also, Fox News has only conduced minor coverage of Gaetz major minor problem, while conducting major coverage of Biden’s minor Major problem.

The question is whether Biden's minor Major problem and Gaetz’ major minor problem will be major or minor issues affecting the Dems' minor majorities next year.

Let’s be clear about this: Assuming Manchin's statements/actions aren’t performative as usual and that he won’t inevitably change his mind (Manchin has 'vowed' a lot in the past...), there’s only one thing that would prompt him to vote no on legislation like this: D leadership/Schumer aren’t behind it (probably partly/largely because they fear a backlash) and want him to 'sink' it since it’s much easier to have him cast the deciding vote against it than some deep blue state Senators.

Manchin has never cared about the interests or concerns of the people in his state, it’s all about bolstering his image. The man isn’t a less 'reliable' vote for Democrats than Feinstein.

This thread is supposed to recognize posts that, while shorter and perhaps less thoughtful than those that end up in the Good Posts Gallery, convey particularly good and valuable thoughts — at the very least, a clever turn of phrase. "This is dumb [rolling eyes emoji]," whatever the content of the message it's responding to, does not qualify.

Two similar and deserving posts:

One of these days the cop defenders are going to have to come up with an explanation for why this kind of thing just keeps happening, and why it happens so much more often than in other countries.

One of these days the gun defenders are going to have to come up with an explanation for why this kind of violence just keeps happening, and why it happens so much more often than in other countries.

One of these days the healthcare defenders are going to have to come up with an explanation for why this kind of bankruptcy just keeps happening, and why it happens so much more often than in other countries.

The status quo in this country would be far too exhausting to defend if they actually tried.  It’s much easier to yell "America #1 you soshalist" instead.

One of these days the cop defenders are going to have to come up with an explanation for why this kind of thing just keeps happening, and why it happens so much more often than in other countries.

As an aside, I've gained a ton of respect for Ayman Odeh over the past two years. He sticks to his values but accommodates the lesser evil when he absolutely has to. All politicians holding office in "difficult" countries should aspire to his balance of principle and pragmatism.

Why do American liberals see conservatives as inherently immoral?

Because they espouse racist, sexist, classist beliefs and vote for a party that supports racist, sexist, and classist policies.

He was asking for an explanation, not a demonstration.

I do love how everytime someone wants to lecture me on the simple folkways of the interior where they don't need your big city wages because everything costs a nickle it's a California or Washington Av.

America's gun sickness is crazy. Just a group of people shooting at each other and figuring it all out later. What a society to live in.
