Looks like every updated projection gets better for the SPD. They've probably got this. FDP also going up, and Greens and AfD are going down.

Still no chance of an SPD-FDP-Linke coalition?

There never was one. FDP and Die Linke are just absolutely incompatible.
I suppose it's more of a possibility than an AfD-Green-SPD-Die Linke coalition (R2G1B1).

Lindner and Wissler both seem young, cool and full of new ideas. Was hoping they could put together some kind of libertarian socialist coalition.

That would basically be the equivalent of the Chamber of Commerce party going into coalition with the Occupy Wall Street party

A Ribbentrop-Molotov coalition (Linke/AfD) would be more logical: Alice Weidel and Janine Wißler are both young intelligent women whose names start with W.

Do you think the FDP and Linke’s economic ideas are at all reconcilable? (Hint: they aren’t.)

Listen, the first time you brought up this silly idea a few weeks ago (and showed your ignorance either as to what "libertarian socialism" means or to what kind of parties FDP and Die Linke are or likely both) we did not dogpile you just because. This is legitimately a very stupid take and it's seriously a bit sad that you did not use this time to learn more about German politics.

What? lawyers from Frankfurt and pensioners from Cottbus will join hands like it's a student election in some NH liberal arts college?

"Libertarian socialist coalition" sounds like "vegan pork sausage" or "half-pregnant".

Can people please not import their political ideologies into this thread please?

And if you’ve never taken an interest in German politics please, like me, come to this thread to learn, rather than make a fool of yourself.

It's pretty hard to discuss an election in arguably Europe's most influential country, without importing your political ideologies to it. And some people may not be fully up to par on the intricacies of German policies, but they know how the CDU reacted to the economic crisis, for instance, and that's enough to form an opinion.

Hell of a mental image though, have to admit that much.

I am calling for a complete and total ban of American tourists entering the International Election board until we can figure out what the hell is going on.

And there's also the fact that those who bemoan those who know less, also have the duty to educate.
If necessary, put it very simply.
All of us were once not very well informed about politics.

SPD ahead 25.5 to 24.4 in ARD. So the gap increases.

The stereotype of the elderly die Linke voter doesn't seem very accurate then...

Why would right-wing leaning under 30s move from the CDU/CSU to the FDP? Dislike of Laschet?

What is the likelihood of  Grand Coalition 2.0 (post-Merkel and seemingly with a SPD chancellor)?

Given Germany's demographic profile I think the outstanding thing here is that they were able to find voters under 30 to poll.

Slim imo

I don't think the CDU would agree to that

How would those between 30 and 60 vote? Roughly in line with average?

Once was accurate, but it's been 30 years since the wall came down. There's a reason why Linke has gained in the west and collapses in the east, and it's not swing voters. Its generational replacement.

The CDU would probably be unwilling to join a grand coalition it does not lead.
The SPD would definitely be unwilling to join a grand coalition it does not lead.
It's one of the less likely possibilities.

It only happens in the unlikely event that both traffic-light & Jamaica negotiations were to fail.
