I'm not sure why Ukraine would target Russian residential buildings. But earlier in the week Russia warned of "massive retaliation" on command targets in Ukraine they claimed to have thus far refrained attacking, if further Ukrainian incursions in Russia occurred.

If the Moskva does go under, it'll be the largest ship sank in combat since WWII.

Indeed, by quite some margin. General Belgrano was less than 10,000 tons standard displacement.

He might be pro-Ukraine, but is simping for Russia in order to humiliate Biden and the West. That's my theory. The interesting part is that there is actually no way of telling at this time how our policies towards Russia were to change if Biden or his surrogate lost. If Trump gets re-elected, what would happen would be obvious. If a relatively normal neocon R wins in 2024, it might be totally the opposite of what would happen if Trump won.

I mean I understand he wants his side of the aisle to come out on top, but I don't think the outcome of this war really matters in terms of that.

At this point, the only thing that will matter in 2024 is if inflation is at 10-20% or if inflation is 2-3%.

Ah the theory that he’s a piece of sh*t. Interesting 🧐

I mean, it's rational and understandable, but still unethical.

Just a quick thread from a WaPo reporter briefed by a Defense Official:

US Intelligence believes Moskova’s on fire and being towed to Sevastopol. A ship that’s been burning for a day plus is unlike to be salvageable but not technically sunk.
US Army’s European Command is prepping to train Ukrainians on new weapons systems.

There now needs to be a "The Virgin Moskva vs. The Chad Ukrainian Anti-Naval Defense" meme!

Big if true. Though, the attack on the Russian convoy shown in the third tweet is confirmed cause well... an anti-tank mine and lots of TNT blocks placed under a bridge goes boom. (Picture of said bridge explosive setup in the bottom tweet.)

The Russians don't want to admit that the Ukrainians sunk their ship, so they would rather have the world think that the Russian sailors are such incompetent buffoons that they accidentally blow up their own ship?

Russians are so strong and undefeatable in battle that they can only be defeated by Russians.

Battle of Tsushima moment:

For history nerds like myself: the last Russian flagship lost was the battleship Knyaz Suvorov, which sunk on May 27th, 1905 at 19:30.

After saying initially the warship was afloat, late on Thursday Russian state media broke the news that the Moskva had been lost.

"While being towed... towards the destined port, the vessel lost its balance due to damage sustained in the hull as fire broke out after ammunition exploded. Given the choppy seas, the vessel sank," state news agency Tass quoted the Russian defence ministry as saying.

Another fun fact, Russia lost 3 flagships in naval combat during the Russo Japanese War.
- Petropavlovsk, hit a mine and sunk on 13th April 1904, killing Admiral Makarov
- Tsesarevich, badly damaged at the battle of the Yellow Sea and was interned until the war's end at German controlled Tsingtao on the 10th August 1904, Admiral Vitgeft killed.
- Knyaz Suvorov, sunk 27th May 1905 during the battle of Tsushima, Admiral Rozhestvensky wounded.

Russians just aren't very good at handling combustible materials

It should be noted that Belgorod is supposedly the rally point for the troops that exited Northern Ukraine to "rest and refit"  before moving to the Donbas.  Nice of the Ukrainians  to provide them with a bonfire.

My interpretation of this story, is that there is a lot of internal arm wrestling in the Biden administration as to how much to muscle up Ukraine during the relative lull in the fighting, as Russia moves troops to the east as part of one last gasp to cause the most drastic demographic changes Putin jerks off about to create a map that he finds pleasing to his eyes.

https://thehill.com/news/administration/3269085-hawks-make-inroads-in-russian-debate-as-us-arms-ukraine/

Biden, no matter how much of a challenge it may prove to be for you, try to keep in the back of your mind that if Putin proves a fail, he probably goes down. That is where the real action is at this point. The status quo is really not that sustainable for that long a period. Even the morally challenged leaders, like the creeps in Germany, cannot at this point afford to appear to be sustaining Putin's insane sanguinary fascist fantasies. So try to slip the knife into Putin's gut, as opportunities present.
