She's no 'plant'...and I've had enough cups of tea off old ladies to know that Smiley

Oh, I don't think she is either. But certain phrases result in an instant Roll Eyes from certain people.

So we've had Elvis, Peppa Pig and the old lady. What next; monkey on a bike anyone?

Also just to point out that based on the audio recording, in private Brown sounds more 'Scottish' than he does 'on the telly.'

It must be his normal voice. After all, we've never really heard the PM without the constant "and... urm... yeah... uhhhh *drops jaw* um."

This whole bigot-gate saga feels like an episode of The Thick Of It.

That is, quite probably, the least surprising news of the election.

It would be nice if he was allowed to use it; even the pacing sounded better.

So... Brown - not like his public face... even where his public face looks worse?

Yeah, well. I think we can write this election off.

In America, we have a term for what the Labor campaign is becoming.  That term is train wreak.

Gravesham is turning out to be hilarious. (It's also the seat where the LD PPC is a female porn director.)

I've never heard anyone in America say the phrase "train wreak."

This exchange makes me more supportive of Brown. Unfortunately bigots like that woman are probably a good share of Labour's voters.

That's actually what I wondered. It was a gaffe, obviously, but an understandable one and clearly played up as a "gotcha" moment by the Sky and the RW press.

I don't expect Labour to win this election, but I wonder if there could be a bit of a backlash/sympathy for Brown, as there was with that mispelled-letter incident?

There are problems however; her question on immigration was simply 'why can't we talk about it'; most of the exchange was about pensions, unemployed and the cost of education. Labelling a woman a bigot after two minutes of chat is uncalled for. Simple as that.

If 'thems the rules' then he ought to have a word with one of his own candidates.

To infer that she is a 'bigot' because of her question is also unfair. She said she worked with the 'handicapped'; theres a word that's gone out of use. Someone could run with that and say she was 'unsensitive' towards to those with learning difficulties etc. It's quite clear that, given her career and her pride in saying she worked with these kids she's anything but. To infer that she believes one way or another about immigration/immigrants is also shaky territory.

Is it public knowledge that Clegg is an athiest? I just learned that fact. Neat.

He gave it a passing mention during one of the debate. Apart from that, he hardly makes a song and dance of it.

He doesn't parade it I would imagine, but he did say "I am not a man of faith, but my wife is a Catholic" in the second Leaders Debate. So I would imagine it's not a secret.

You could make a case that complaining about a large influx of immigrants is bigoted, but it's a very weak one.

People who say "we can't talk about immigration" aren't right. Look at the last debate.

Religion of party leaders has never been much of an issue here, not even when religion was a major influence on voting patterns; the only exception that comes to mind is Kinnock, who's agnosticism was sometimes attacked by the usual suspects.

Well we always knew he couldn't make up his mind about most things Grin
