Consider their longstanding support for Labour it's a bit unexpected.

It's not unexpected for people who read it on a (fairly) regular basis and isn't as though they don't have form when it comes to backing the LibDems and ancestors (as did the pre-Murdoch Times, of course). The only surprise (to me) was how hostile the endorsement was to the Tories; a lot of surprisingly pro-Cameron content has been published in the Grauniad over the past few years.

But, yeah. Labour doesn't have many friends in Theoretical Fleet Street at the moment.

The Guardian did, in Labour's best interests, call on Brown to step aside following the Euro elections. And, frankly, the national campaign has been terrible Sad. And why we elected Hattie Harman Roll Eyes deputy, I don't know. Must have been the women!

As far as this party goes, I'm not sure I can stay much longer. Too much insititutionalised discrimination Angry

Sky reports that The Times, as expected, has endorsed the Conservatives.

Could he know something about the constituency that we don't?

The Lib Dems' candidate for Brigg and Goole is Richard Nixon. In 2005, it was Gary Johnson. Tongue

Just curious; Cameron visited Penistone (Barnsley West and Penistone Penistone and Stocksbridge) today.

He certainly wouldn't have visited it were it still in Barnsley West & Penistone. Penistone & Stocksbridge is a different matter; it ought to be Labour, but is the sort of constituency that could fall in a bad year, something further enhanced by Labour's local government weakness there (ultimately a consequence of the local government reforms in the 1970s; in terms of local politics Penistone and surrounds define themselves against the Labour machine in and around Barnsley, while Stocksbridge and surrounds define themselves against the Labour machine in eastern Sheffield). A complicating factor is that the LibDems presumably see it as a reasonable longshot target as well.

I wonder if there will be any banter about the Election at the football matches today....

On the Saturday before the 1992 Election, my dad was watching the team he supports, Rotherham United, playing at Hereford United. Not only were most of the Rotherham fans wearing Labour badges (not suprising, as Rotherham is a safe Labour seat), but a big number of the Hereford fans were too, which was suprising, as Hereford isn't exactly a Labour stronghold....

Actually part of Hereford is Labour (Labour enough to vote for the Party in 2008). A very working class area south of the river and which is almost certainly overrepresented wrt Hereford United fans. Lots of Poles there now, but they aren't citizens.

I don't know for sure but it's possible; they're the largest club in that area by a fair distance. Might pick up some support from the Forest as well. All of those three places are more rugby than football, as a general rule.

We're either going to get a Tory minority government or a Tory majority government with a majority smaller than an bookmark.

I always like looking at where the party leaders visit in the last few days.

Brown - Harrow West (Lab Maj 18.3%), Dulwich and West Norwood (Lab Maj 19.8%) Streatham (Lab Maj 17.5%)
Cameron - St Austell and Newquay (Lib Maj 12.4%)
Clegg - Harrogate and Knaresborough (Lib Maj 16.2%) Colne Valley (Lab Maj 2.5% - Lab Maj over Lib 10.9%)

EDIT: Cameron is also in Delyn.

As of this moment, do you think the Tories will get a majority afleitch?  What does your gut tell you? And will the LD surge if it holds in the high 20's, and perhaps a tad ahead of Labour, garner any seats for the Tories net?  In other words, where is it the LD's are surging, in seats where the gain is at the net expense of the Tories, or of Labour?

I think they just might get a majority. But there's still alot to playfor and turnout on the day will be the key.

I find these Facebook groups that are titled "(Insert "cool" celebrity name here) for Prime Minister" pretty amusing. The people who create them don't seem to have much knowledge of the system....
