Do we actually know if he’s gay? One would wonder why someone would lie about that, but the same is true for a lot of this other stuff. He’s gotten some attention for being the first Republican to be elected while out, maybe it was to make him stand out.

If he wasn't, that would be huge. Especially for a Republican. Honestly, for a Democrat you might understand someone trying to check diversity boxes.

I mean this is by definition impossible to prove one way or another.

It's calling being DOWN LOW, Larry Craig was obviously gay but he is married he is down low

So to summarize:

- No record he ever worked at Citigroup or Goldman Sachs
- His “charity” is not registered as tax-exempt by the IRS
- No record of him attending the college he claimed to graduate from
- No clients for his “firm” exist
- No records of the properties he claimed to own existing
- Omitted key personal financial disclosures during campaign
- Charged criminally for check fraud in Brazil
- Lied about losing four employees at the Pulse nightclub shooting
- Evicted multiple times
- Bounced between several failed business ventures over two years
- A person at the address where he is registered to vote said she is not familiar with him

How plucky and picaresque! You'd have to root for him if he weren't about to become a powerful political figure in real life. He'd make a great Thackeray protagonist.

Prediction: He serves out the whole two year term but doesn't run for reelection. I think that's the sweet spot here: the jig is up and with this much open ammo and 2024, a Presidential election year with Presidential election-level turnout AND giant gaping scandals, he'd be cooked and knows it. He does his two years and gets to be "Former Congressman Santos (if that is his real name)" for the rest of his life. Not a bad prize for a con artist.

I can think of at least one Republican who would run in a special and make it at least a competitive race, Michael Montesano.

Democrats have a deeper bench in the district, I suppose, but a Suozzi comeback campaign (at least for a special) would probably be their best option.

Assuming Suozzi doesn't run, I could see Lafazan making another run

Ben Rosenblatt on Twitter. More or less matched Zeldin.

Also that doesn't appear to be a real Churchill Quote. One some level I wouldn't be surprised if this is a pathological liar.

A Biden +8, Zeldin +14 seat. Woof. Dems really fell through the floor in Long Island.

EDIT: Apparently this is only the Nassau County part of the seat. The district does contain a small bit of Queens so it probably isn't QUITE this bad.

The vast majority of this seat's population lives in Nassau. The Queens portion is definitely bluer than the Nassau portion but it's probably still something like Zeldin +12 overall.

Outside of a Suozzi comeback Anna Kaplan’s probably the best option Dems have here.

Though she just lost re-election.

Unless he's a really good actor, the dude is gay.

I doubt he has the humility to resign. Also McCarthy probably would not allow it. NY-3 is stuck with this guy for two years. He is likelier to lose if he runs for re-election though...well, if the New York Democrats learn from this year he will (no guarantee of that).

Yeah he’s probably gay, but the dude successfully lied about every aspect of his life while an organization with millions in resources campaigned against him. He has some skills.

Where did he even come from in the first place? Could I become a GOP nominee for a house seat in a safe D district if I wanted to? Santos was running in a swing seat, how did someone with no actual credentials become the nominee.

This story just gets weirder the more I think about it.

If his whole bio is fake, that begs the question of what the hell he's been doing for most of his adult life (besides stealing checks, apparently). The only vaguely comparable situation I can think of is Cawthorn, but at least with him there's a lot less time to account for.

One of those very telling statements that has a lot of words in it, but is curiously missing a single one that explicitly contends that anything in the article is false.

The fact that he isn't making an attempt to deny any of these claims leads me to believe that he did in fact fake his resume.

Which like RR pointed out, makes me wonder what exactly has he been doing his whole life.

He’s definitely gay, but I really doubt his twink is a doctor like they say he is.

I’m more concerned that he might be lying about being Jewish.

I'm not sure why anyone thinks the kind of person who would lie about all this would be the kind of person to have enough humility to resign when he's found out...
