MI is a very pro-Democracy state. The ballot initiative process seems to be one of the most open and least bureaucratic in the nation

hahaha

the twitter discourse about Michigan being more Democratic than Virginia will be hilarious to watch.

Democrats must regain the HOD and retain the State Senate in Virginia if they want to disprove that in Nov 2023

Wasn’t one of the downfalls of the Romney campaign their unskewing of polls?

Yes, 2012 was the Great Unskewing Debacle that led some people to think Romney and other Republicans were doing much better than was actually the case.

This...is a pretty weird message to take.

Reminds me of Scott Jensen's ad saying that you should ignore his views on abortion because he can't do anything about it anyway. Is this the new GOP strategy to sidestep the issue?

It's funny how her and Whitmer even look pretty similar but Whitmer comes across as just far more likeable in every way.

They seem to be waving the white flag on the abortion issue in certain states. But it's too little, too late. Tudor Dixon is on tape saying she wouldn't support exceptions even when presented with the hypothetical of a 14 year old girl raped by her uncle. Scott Jensen is on tape saying he wants to ban all abortions in Minnesota. No matter what weird pivots they make now to pretend that they'll respect the right to choose, they can't run and hide from their own records that easily.

There is no way broadcasters would allow that ad to run on TV, not just for the graphicness of it, but the fact that it's clearly an outright lie.

You know you’re winning when you’re running the “my opponent is a pedo” ads.

The only people who could possibly fall for this are 20 year old "America First populists" (who agree with the same policies as Steve Forbes/Kochs/Musk) who spend their days watching Tim Pool-esque videos.

Seeing ads like this would likely only weird out voters and make it harder to make the case against her.

In all seriousness what kind of comic book even is this and what has Whitmer specifically done to put it in schools? I highly doubt she even ever alluded to that book, and it is certainly not part of any curriculum. Say the book just randomly exists in a library at some school, that still seems like a relatively minor problem of all possible things.

Laugh at it all you want, but that's better campaigning than Dixon has been doing lol. I still can't get over her going to bat for Rick Snyder of all people

Shapiro and Whitmer are both running a very similar campaign and doing a great job at it.

The weird thing is that even most Republicans probably don't like Snyder now, since he endorsed Biden.

It was also Drazan's line defense when asked about the abortion issue at the first Oregon gubernatorial debate. It's certainly an indication that (most) Republican candidates for governor are concerned about the implications of the Dobbs decision on undecided voters. It's especially critical for Dixon, who might otherwise be in a dead heat race with Whitmer were it not for the abortion ballot question.

This is unlikely.  Whitmer would probably still be ahead, although by less than she is now.

The weird thing about this new abortion flex is it was actually kind of true and something that Republicans used to some success pre-Dobbs. For example in 2014 Maryland Democrats tried to rag Hogan on abortion and he replied that while he was personally pro-life Roe was the law of the land and there was nothing he could do about it and it worked. But you didn't see it outside of Republicans running in very blue states, swing state ones usually attacked abortion ferociously. Now that that excuse isn't valid anymore they're trying it any way and seem to think voters will actually believe them.
