2012

It's so hilariously ridiculous that it manages to be pretty entertaining.

Predators
Despicable Me

Predators was alright but I had some issues with various parts of the story. You could also tell it was made on the cheap but maybe that was for the best in some ways.

I enjoyed Despicable Me a lot more than I thought I would. It was incredibly formulaic but the old formula is done really, really well here. Also, the 3D actually looked good for once.

I watched Batman and Robin, if 10 minutes counts. That film was terrible.

Inception.

When it hits DVD I think I'll actually get really high for once just to watch it as such. It's probably even better.

The Deer Hunter - I'd seen part of it years ago, but never watched it all the way through until yesterday. It could have been great if the first third(the wedding scene) had been cut down by a half hour.

All The President's Men - Not a good movie. I expected quite a bit more.

Jane Eyre (2006) - Great adaptation, loved every minute of it. Toby Stephens as Mr. Rochester was excellent and absolutely hilarious.

Brooklyn's Finest.

This wasn't really a bad movie, but was full of cliches and I wasn't sure what the point was. There wasn't really a plot that connected the three main characters and none of their individual storylines were pretty interesting. This is especially true of Richard Gere's character who had no real plot at all, just a bunch of events in a row, which is a shame as he was probably the most interesting of the three.

Inception

I found it fairly dull tbh, I was going to write a long winded post on this in the "Inception is boring" thread but why bother...? (One thing I'll add though... who knew the subconcious would be so dull?)

The Damned United was shown on telly the other day, so I watched it. Enjoyable enough, but nowhere near as good as the book. Sheen was a very convincing Clough, even if he sometimes sounded more Port Talbot than Middlesbrough.

On a retrouvé la 7ème compagnie

Just passed on TF1, biggest French TV channel and which has a constant streaming on internet, then I watched it there.

It's the 2nd part of a very famous and popular trilogy in France, shot in the 70s, of which at least one movie of it if not the three have been broadcast more or less every year on a French channel since I've been a kid.

It's a kind of light comedy on 3 guys from the French army in the beginning of WW2. It kinda show the ridiculousness of the French army during this time by making fun of it but in a kind way. Interestingly enough it doesn't take the easy to make easy fun of Germans, they are shown like not so smart robots at worst, globally French are more mocked than them, but the 3 guys win in the end! Grin

I enjoyed it as a kid, I see I still like it.

Shutter Island

Definitely an interesting one. It makes one think... and there is a great final line in it. Some people have complained about the soundtrack being overbearing but I thought it was great. The movie could have been a little bit shorter though, I think.

I sort of enjoyed the length but that might be because I saw it at 4PM on a Sunday afternoon, not 10PM on a Saturday night.

It didn't really feel long at all to me. The movie kept moving briskly from start to finish.

I think the fact that I watched it on my computer didn't help matters. I always get distracted by other things when I watch movies on it and sometimes that makes them seem longer than they actually are. I should have just watched it at the theater when it came out but I was probably too busy with school and drinking and other things at the time or whatever.

Sense & Sensibility - One of the Jane Austen books I haven't read. It was quite good, the ending was slightly sudden, and they didn't do enough to show the bond between Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson in the beginning, but the acting was great and the set design/costumes were fantastic.

Is that a prequel to Inception? Wink

That's my most recent as well.

Eraserhead: I found Shutter Island was too twist-based with the twist being a little too predictable to really work all the way, if you know what I mean?

Amadeus - Pretty good, I'm glad I watched it. One of those movies I put off for a long time. Mozart's wife annoyed the hell out of me though.

Angels in America - The acting was really good. I didn't care for the fantastical stuff at all, it bored me to death. Al Pacino was particularly great, I hated Mary Louise Parker's character(I just don't like her in general). Scenery was good, special effects were decent for an HBO production.
