At this point my preferences, ranked, are:

1) Warren
2) Whitmer
3) Duckworth
4) Harris
5) Lance Bottoms
6) Baldwin
7) Demings
8 ) Lujan Grisham
9) Rice
10) Bass

I know some of them almost certainly aren't in serious contention anymore, but listed all I could think of just to be safe.

Any guesses when the announcement will be made?

I'm expecting late next week, probably next Friday or Saturday.

"Baggage" is going to come out any running mate that Joe picks. And Trump's baggage will still outweigh it ten fold. The running mate doesn't decide elections. They world will not end no matter who he picks.

Whitmer would be much better than Warren. Everybody knows who Warren is already and she would not be very popular among moderates/conservatives, a key portion of Biden’s base. He already has huge leads, he doesn’t need to risk it on Warren to appeal to progressives.

On the other hand, Whitmer is less known, and Biden/Whitmer can use that to by their advantage.

The only running mate without "baggage" is Duckworth.

Why are people guessing Friday? Friday is the day that you bury news.

Typically but given the significance of the VP announcement I don't think that would matter. Plus it would the start of the weekend leading into the convention.

In other news (why Biden has taken so long to personally settle on a choice).

The idea that Biden would announce tonight, launch his website, and then spend the weekend doing interviews and sending out campaign surrogates to hype it up, and then dominate the news cycle on the way to the DNC the following week...sounds pretty ideal to me. But the same could be true with announcing on Monday and dominating the news that week leading up to the DNC.

People need to stop saying this. The polling has shown time & time again that it just isn't true.

I don’t think Warren is the best choice. She’d be one of my least favorite picks.

But just wanted to say my sister is a former Republican and right leaning moderate who detests Trump and supported Warren in the primary.  I don’t necessarily think it’s true that Warren would turn off moderates and conservatives.  At least from my personal experience.

This is actually resembling McCain 2008 VP selection

Where Harris is like Mitt Romney a former bitter rival in the primaries who everyone thought McCain/Biden would pick until the last moment

Rice is like Lieberman which is personally who McCain/Biden want to pick but the base would not like at all

Then McCain/Biden pick a one term governor as their running mate

I’m getting the feeling that Whitmer is right behind Harris and Rice in this race.

Feels like the Jill Biden recommendation, Joe's heart pick. Unlike Palin I'm confident she has the chops to be good nationally.

What if Harris was already crossed off a while ago and it has been between Whitmer and Rice since Karen Bass imploded? Tongue

People in this thread are talking about Duckworth. She just doesn't seem a super likely pick for various reasons.

Shes my favorite pick too but apparently shes said the biden campaign has not been in contact with her for a few weeks meaning shes likely not under consideration anymore Sad all the evidence were seeing now is that its narrowed down to
Harris
Rice
Demmings
and Whitmer?

Damn. I did not see the current situation (Rice/Whitmer being likely) coming. I was sure it would be Harris. Way too overconfident - I’ve owned myself so thoroughly that I'll delete my account if it isn’t Harris.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/07/us/politics/joe-biden-vice-presidential-search.html (https://archive.vn/cfgj6):

Quote
Joseph R. Biden Jr.'s campaign staff is making plans to introduce his eventual vice-presidential choice to key party constituencies. Donors are readying finance events featuring the still-unnamed running mate - "date and time to be announced." An in-person reveal is being discussed.

But as the political world awaits his announcement, Mr. Biden himself has not appeared to be in a big rush - no surprise to those who know him well.

[...]

Mr. Biden is now determining his personal degree of comfort with a narrowed group of candidates, according to people in touch with the campaign.

Asked in an interview last week if Mr. Biden had ideas about who fit that bill, former Senator Harry Reid of Nevada said: "My knowledge is, I think he knows within two or three people who he feels comfortable with. He'll have to narrow it down to number one. He's the only one who can do that."

Names frequently discussed in Biden circles over the last week, according to interviews with top Biden allies, include Ms. Harris, Ms. Rice and Ms. Bass, along with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan. Some supporters also remain enthusiastic about Ms. Demings and Senators Elizabeth Warren and Tammy Duckworth among others, but acknowledge that there is a fluid process that only Mr. Biden, his wife, his sister and a few close longtime aides probably have full visibility into.
