This board due to the often incendiary nature of the news these days, where lots of media outlets report the same story in their own way over a few days, is getting a lot of reports requesting thread mergers at the moment, but I have yet to see a report that identifies the thread into which another thread should be moved. Thus the moderator is constrained to root around and try to find the appropriate merger candidate, that I at least often find burdensome and oppressive, and thus sometimes abandon the task, and take no action. So I request that posters who desire thread mergers,  at least help the old man along, and show him the yellow brick road. Otherwise your request will become more likely to not being honored. Thank you.

Oh, I have one other request on my list here. Some threads are asking for the opinion of posters about an issue or personalities on this board. Those all belong on the Individual Politics board. This board is cluttered enough as it is. Cheers.

Could we perhaps get a single dedicated thread for Florida man stories? At least the non-overtly jpolitical ones? I understand it's something of a swing state, and that some stories (like the recent arrest for threats against prominent minority Democrats) do have significance, but stories like the following feel like clutter:

Florida man arrested for impersonating officer after pulling over detective

Florida man gropes fingerprint technician after being arrested

Florida man arrested outside Olive Garden eating spaghetti with bare hands

Except as local stories, this is mostly National Enquirer stuff.  Florida has a large population with lots of rootless people -- and these people sound like the types that people in Pennsylvania or Illinois say "Thank God -- he's leaving town!" That one appears in Newsweek suggests that Newsweek is going bad very fast.

Freak stories are usually proportional to the population. What is it about Florida -- the absence of real winters so that crazy people don't simply stay indoors? People with no local roots who have the illusion that life is a free-for-all?

One has to have some deep roots, an economic role in life too good to lose, or complete economic helplessness to stick around in a place with real winters in which life is undeniably miserable for three to five months of the year just for the weather.

Can we merge all Illhan Omar threads of the past two weeks into a megathread about her? Same principle with the older AOC thread and recent stories. Is it doable?

Ex:https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=318556.0
https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=315394.0
https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=317758.0

And while we’re at it, a new AOC megathread:https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=318577.0

I just started a state abortion laws megathread and would like to suggest that the current threads on abortion-related news out of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Alabama, and Georgia be merged into it.

These threads need to be merged. Or at least have the one with a poll be moved to Individual Discussion.

Can we merge the International General Discussion thread:

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=352862.0

with the US General Discussion thread:

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=352868.msg7112713#msg7112713

Both essentially involve the current situation within Iran as a result of the recent US killing of one of the most powerful Iranian Generals, who was also tight with the Political Formations within the Country....

Corona-virus megathread ?

Or a sub-forum to contain the infection from spreading.

and a new one. They are appearing in new areas where we were not predicting any Corona-virus to exist:

OK,

Can we move the dumb tweets on COVID-19, and I am not disputing their dumbness by any means, from this thread:

https://talkelections.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=370528.0

and place them in this thread:

https://talkelections.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=364805.0

I have noticed people just going into the Master Sticky thread and dumping really dumb tweets on a daily basis, and derailing the thread from actual discussion of the science around Corona-virus.
So people are not getting any meaningful answers to their questions, no discussion of vaccine development or antibody testing etc.

It's the same old Atlas - "Trump Tweet", "Oh I'm offended", "How could he say that?" over and over and over and over and over again on a daily basis.

These posts offer no scientific or intellectual value to the discussion. It's all simply a partisan act which does not further the conversation and makes the thread difficult to flow. For example, Jim posted some stats on the Corona-virus in the thread and Badger labels him a scoundrel. Badger is not offering any scientific knowledge or merit to the discussion. Negativism of any individual should not be the basis of this forum when people present data. Maybe that is a common tactic in the legal world, but it's not that way with science.

If people want to read dumb tweets from what Trump allegedly said, that is great and they are free to express, but at least they will have their own sticky thread to do it in.

And then we can actually discuss the virus itself.

We do not need two different threads about Matt Taibbi repeating fringe Republican talking points.

I suggest that my  "Trump approval ratings 1.7" thread be merged into "1.6" after exactly 20,000 posts in 1.6. It is all utilities so far, and what I have there would be well timed for a reminder.

Thanx.

I did so myself.

We currently have four threads on things Donald Trump has said at recent rallies, two here in U.S. General Discussion:
https://talkelections.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=395480.0
https://talkelections.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=395680.0

And two more over in U.S. 2020 Presidential Election:
https://talkelections.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=395472.0
https://talkelections.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=395483.0

There were two more Trump rallies in Ohio today (9/21) that were even more extreme than he usually is, and which will likely get some news coverage tomorrow (9/22), and may very well prompt more discussion either here in U.S. General or over in the 2020 Presidential forum.

Could we get these merged into a single thread that's clearly for the rallies and their aftermath? Blue3's thread in the 2020 board has probably the most appropriately generic title, and I think 2020 would be the appropriate forum.

I'm not sure how coordinating between mod teams for the different forums works, but any consolidated thread here or in 2020 seems like it would be better than the continued shotgunning of "Trump said X yesterday" threads. (And it seems unlikely he's going to stop having rallies or stop saying new controversial stuff at them.)

Can we combine the 3-4 San Francisco threads on the front page of this board?

going to second this here. While I recognize USGD doesn't normally do megathreads for localities etc., all this stuff happening at the same time (and with San Francisco schools specifically) does warrant it here.
