Debate summary

First Republican Debate

Winner: Mike Huckabee

With a packed stage of excellent debaters, Huckabee's performance was regarded by many as the best of the night, among many other excellent performances from Jeb Bush, Rudy Guiliani, Jim DeMint, and Michelle Bachmann. Huckabee hit all the right notes in his speech by laying out specifics for many of his answers; something lacking in others' performances. Additionally, he successfully presented himself as a unifier of the party, and received a boost in polling shortly after the debate.

Another notable performance, however not for the same reasons, was Donald Trump's. Effectively ending his campaign by making controversial statements about the other candidates and not responding in enough detail to the questions, Trump sank to a low in polling at 1 percent in the days after the debate, which led him to suspend his campaign.

First Democratic Debate

Winner: Michelle Obama

In the Democratic debate, Michelle Obama came out with a clear win, along with a surprisingly good performance from lesser-known candidate Russ Feingold. In the midst of Joe Biden's sub-par performance (he started off well in the debate but quickly sank his performance after responses to Obama and Bredesen), Obama was able to pull a win by successfully laying out her platform and clearly explaining the message of her campaign. Along with a relatively good performance from Phil Bredesen (who was able to articulate his campaign, however he lost support with the more liberal base with his comparison to Kennedy and Clinton), the debate proved to be a national boost for both Obama's and Feingold's campaigns, and a regional boost for Bredesen's campaign.

Michele Bachmann's 1st Advertsment
"Iowa Values"
Bought in Iowa

Michele Bachmann is running for President. She isn't running for herself, she is running for the American People and their values

Bachmann stands for Iowa values and consvertive values that is why Representive Steve King and Represntive Tom Latham both have endorsed her

Iowa, she needs your vote to send her to the White House so she can fight for Iowa and conservative values from the most powerful office in the world

I am Michele Bachmann and I approve this message

Feingold at rally: Ron Johnson voters were "a bunch of uneducated hicks"

At a rally yesterday in Manchester, New Hampshire, candidate for the Democratic nomination for President in the 2012 elections and former Senator Russ Feingold made questionable comments about supporters of his former Senate opponent, and newly-elected Senator, Ron Johnson. While the subject of the rally was on improving healthcare, the topic quickly shifted to the candidate's run for re-election to the Senate in 2010, and particularly, about the supporters of his opponent, after a heckler in the audience declared "Ron Johnson rigged the Senate race!" Feingold originally made a shift to talk about how Johnson had genuine supporters in an effort to diffuse the situation through a joke; however, Feingold made what commentators have said was "the biggest gaffe of his campaign so far" when he declared that "Johnson had genuine supporters. He had a bunch of conservative uneducated hicks who voted for him in the election!"

While the audience laughed at the time, many pundits have since declared that "while it was intended as a joke, there's no doubt that this will be poorly received by conservative Democrats and possibly even the national base. They don't want a candidate who will marginalize the base." A flash poll from the New York Times reveals Feingold's campaign has taken a hit, with his support ranging in the lower teens to mid single digits. What will be the most defining for his campaign; however, is how he responds in the coming weeks, which could either prevent further damage or ensure it.

In surprise twist, Huckabee becomes voice of reason at Occupy Wall Street protests

During a surprise visit by Huckabee's campaign to Zuccotti Park, the site of the Occupy Wall Street protests on Sunday, Huckabee took a microphone, stood on a bench, and began to make an improvised speech criticizing both sides of the protests. While he initially was booed by supporters of the protest during his criticism of the encampment, as his speech wore on, it became well-received by the protestors and some protestors reportedly left the encampment as a result of the speech.

During the speech, which came as a surprise to even the protestors as Huckabee drove up in an unassuming sedan by himself and took out a battery-powered microphone and a speaker and stood up on a bench, Huckabee criticized the protestors, saying that "If you want to make real change, camping on private property isn't the place to start", which was followed by boos from the protestors. However, as he began to state that "you all have a real cause, but this isn't the place to protest", the crowd began to silence and listen to his argument. He closed the speech, which began to be met with applause from some of the protestors, by saying that "you shouldn't be protesting here. Your protest should be at the ballot box in the primaries and the general. That's where your voice will count!" Dozens of protestors packed up and left after he ended his speech. One protestor, when interviewed, said that while she did not agree with Huckabee's politics, that she was "impressed...that he took the time to come out here and hear our argument, and take the time to make a speech. I'd consider voting for him if I was a Republican."

A New York Times flash poll taken after his speech finds him neck-and-neck with frontrunner Jeb Bush, both with 20 percent of the vote.

Carolla campaigns in New Hampshire on trade

Carolla:If I am elected president the era the economic surrender will be over.  We will never surrender this country or any country of that matter or people to the song of Globalism.

Another thing killing jobs is these so called free trade agreements like NAFTA and CAFTA

They are not free trade what so ever. They are indeed the opposite of Free trade and have resulted in losing jobs to Mexico and China and to big corporations.

I visited people in Iowa and here in New Hampshire who’s jobs and living were destroyed over these deals and how we Americans should should take a second look at what we have done. Those hard good paying jobs were killed and got sent to another country only this time it’s made in worse conditions than before.

And as President in my first week I will repeal every one of these major so called “free trade”  trade deals and give those jobs to Americans again and make sure we end up having the upper hand in them.

If you are a foreign power and you want to weaken Amercia you couldn’t do better than Obama,Biden or Bush and the Democrats economic agenda.

Under this so called free trade organizations people like the Chinese get richer and the Americans get poorer.
The Skyscrapers went up in Beijing  and other cities in the country while the factories and neighborhoods here especially in Concord and Manchester crumbled right here.

When we abandon the policy of Amercia first we then started rebuilding other countries instead of our own.

However when and if I become president the era of Economic freedom and Americanism will begin.

Feingold's comments are really OOC, however Huckabee's comments actually are in character in my opinion. The problem for Huckabee is that commentary would sink him amongst Carolla, and Bachmann voters.

Also, we have an OOC thread for complaints like this.

Response from Adam Carolla campaign

Mr Perry’s remarks are strictly untrue and ironic.  Carolla is fighting for a conservative cause like defunding Planned Parenthood and taking the goverment out of people’s lives.

While Bush when he was Govenor of Florida got goverment into abortion and healthcare many times just like what happened with Terri Schiavo

Schedule for Joe Biden

November 1-6

Campaign in and around Las Vegas, Nevada

Senator Feingold seems to have forgotten the first rule of the Presidential Campaign...don't insult the voter. You can say whatever you like about your opponent, but once you start insulting voters, it's game over.

November 7-15

Campaign in and around Phoenix, Arizona

It's time we moved to reinstate all provisions of the Glass-Steagall act, as not doing so has lead to the financial crisis of four years ago, and our current recession. I know it is not a popular position to take with the fat cats on Wall Street, but it needs to be done, before our recession gets worse, or we have another one, years down the line.

November 18-21

Fundraisers, Los Angeles/San Fransisco

November 22-23

Campaign in and around, Detroit, Michigan (With Carl Levin)

In many was Pakistan is responsible for our failure to capture Osama Bin Laden. They have been sheltering him for years, at least according to all the evidence I've seen, and during the most recent attempt to get him in Abbottabad, earlier this year, all the evidence led me to believe that the Pakistani military knew he was there and tipped him off to our troops arrival. Is that the actions of an ally in the war on terrorism?

November 24-27

Thanksgiving with friends and family, Wilmington, Delaware

November 28-30

Campaign in and around Des Moines, Iowa (With Tom Harkin)

Feingold 2012

November 1-7

Feingold travelled to South Carolina, visiting many poorer neighborhoods and meeting with local leaders for their support in the campaign. He also made a stop in Arkansas, where he welcomed the endorsement of General Wesley Clark. Clark called Feingold "the sanest candidate when it comes to foreign policy". Following this, Clark became the chair of the Arkansas campaign.

November 8-14

This week was spent in Iowa, as Feingold attempted to rally support from the farming population by again saying he would pass a bill to enact protections for small farms from major farming companies. He also made visits to Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, saying that he would champion a rise in the minimum wage, and openly tie it to inflation, so that the wage would always keep pace with the economy.

November 15-21

Feingold travelled to Massachusetts this week, appearing with Governor Deval Patrick, and the two of them campaigned on economic and criminal justice issues. Namely, they stated that one of Feingold's objectives would be to institute body cameras as part of standard equipment for all federal law enforcement groups. The two also travelled to New Hampshire, again hitting the same noted about economic justice, notably referring to the Occupy Wall Street movement as a group with excellent goals, but a little misguided in the violence they had committed.

Rest of the month

The rest of the month was spent strategizing, as Feingold's campaign began to lay out it's strategy for the early primary states. In addition, he also prepared his first ad campaign, to hit the early states and beyond. The state campaigns also held several fundraisers, to raise money for their own campaigns.

Carolla campaigns in Manchester Vermont in his tax plan

Well this is just the first of a series I am doing so you ain’t see nothing yet people.  Yes our tax code hasn’t been reformed for almost 30 years. The Republicans not all but some haven’t even cared yet about putting in such a system and yet there they are acting like a typical politician just saying this to get elected.

Well hear me out now . I live in California one of the most Tax happy states in the country and just look at our roads and infrastructure  they still look broken yet Govenor Brown and Gray Davis back in the day  tells us that all those taxes we are spoused to pay will help with that system and I don’t see it. It’s still the same old broken roads that Brown promised that he would fix and so far he has done nothing.

Our state has tripled our deficit and our government still has result to tax after tax after tax. And that’s what I feel Barrack Obama and the Democrats is doing.
You guys in New Hampshire have it so good!!

So I don’t see the problem with people keeping more of their own money while the Democrats act like its some act of terror or something.

I also plan to cut the corporate tax by 20-30% so we can finally get the upper hand in  competition with other countries and make sure we are a great place to trade with  and do business in.

I also mentioned that I would put in a balanced budget amendment which is much needed.  Obama and the Democrats love to tax working businesses and people and they use that money to go overboard on spending in which we can so close to being in 20$ trillion dollars in debt.

This won’t happen not on my watch!!
