Kennedy (and his family) should just go away.

I pray that the voters of Massachusetts have enough sense to reject Joe Kennedy III, who would be merely the latest in a family dynasty that has had more than its due, and should be relegated to the past. Political dynasties are not a good thing for this country.

Or pray we have the sense to elect a young, well educated, talented, well spoken man who happens to be from a family that has given so much to this country. If Kennedy runs, he wins. And that’s a good thing.

And? His family background hardly indicates that he'll be a good Senator (judging by his legislative record he's clearly no Ted Kennedy). It only shows that he's immensely privileged and has enough hubris to think he can take whatever he wants because he feels entitled to it.

Pathetic. I bet MA Dems would vote for a broomstick if its last name was Kennedy.

The fact someone calls themselves a “Democrat” and thinks this way, blows my mind

You could say the same about someone who's in favor of primarying an incumbent Democratic Senator for no good reason.

After AOC won, her supporters said it was a good thing, because Joe Crowley was old and out-of-touch and ineffective.  The reality is that Crowley was very in-touch with his district, in fact that was the main thing he did as a Rep was take care of the 14th.

Crowley's family lived in Virginia, and his children attended VA public schools instead of the schools where in the 14th, and AOC campaigned on this as well.

Yeah, and this was even a major talking point of AOC's 2018 campaign. I don't really have an opinion one way or another about that line of attack, but having a permanent residence outside of one's constituency can certainly feed into a perception that a politician is out of touch which a primary opponent could exploit.

If you're going post tweets regarding turnout, can you at least avoid Twitter randos making anecdotal, highly speculative reports.

I hope Kennedy wins just so the Markey stans will quit being insufferable.

Silence, Republican!

Oh come on. Anyhow,

It's still a pretty stupid thing to say that you hope a candidate loses just because some (not all) of their followers have been insufferable. Not to mention disingenuous about the way Kennedy's supporters have acted.

Kennedy is leading in Worcester's initial returns, per DDHQ.

Seen on Twitter: Markey won a precinct in Somerville, 349-101, and a precinct in Allston-Brighton with 80%.

Not surprising, Allston-Brighton is a part of Boston that fits right into the kind of place Markey would do well in (large young progressive population/large Sanders-Warren constituency in the presidential primary)-

I liked Wasserman in 2018 but ever since he started making more hot takes than predictions and analysis he has turned me off. Now I actually want Kennedy to win because it would teach Wasserman to not fly too close to the sun.

end of rant

He was trying his "Whole Foods" shtick again tonight - which is far worse than any of his forecasts where he's "seen enough" (which are usually fairly accurate, mind you).

Markey's numbers in Natick and Newton compared against Kennedy's numbers in Springfield and Worcester make one thing clear: this race has never been about progressive vs establishment or house vs senate. It's about the wealthy (Markey's base) vs everyone ese (Kennedy's base). So much for being on the side of the working man, Markey bros.

Have you seen western Mass?Huh??

This is the worst possible take for so many reasons.

Springfield vs the Pioneer Valley, you mean? Sure, Markey's going 55-45 in rural Western MA but the blue collar heartland of Massachusetts is solidly behind Kennedy. It's funny to see the Sanders/Warren types who were oh-so-horrified to see the Democrats become the party of UMC whites have their candidate win because of these very voters. It is abundantly clear that Markey's majority is coming from rich towns in Middlesex and Metrowest, not anywhere else.

This may shock some people but working class, blue collar voters aren’t hardcore Leftists. In the primary they overwhelmingly went for Biden, and Sanders/ Warren got crushed with them. These types of voters are your stereotypical “Moderate Democrat”

Most Progressives are upper class whites in the suburbs. Despite their rhetoric, Berniecrats don’t represent the working class.

This isn't entirely accurate. Sanders did very well with working-class voters in large cities (and much of his coalition was non-white - namely Hispanics and Asians in cities). "Working-class" voters includes a far larger group than non-college-educated voters in rural/small-town America.

Also, it seems like you're confusing upscale Progressives (which in the MA Presidential Primary was largely a Warren constituency) with Berniecrats.

Kennedy's loss, as noted above, means he is the first member of that family to ever lose an election in Massachusetts. And another thing-once his House term ends on January 3, 2021, it will be the first time in 74 years that no direct descendant of Joseph Kennedy Sr. will hold elected office anywhere in the United States. This doesn't count Amy Kennedy, Van Drew's opponent in New Jersey, who married into the family. Hopefully, the Kennedy dynasty will now find its way into the history books, like the Roosevelts and Tafts have.

I think there were a few weeks in the beginning of 2013 without a Kennedy but JKIII was representative elect then.

Yes, the 112th Congress didn't have any Kennedys (Patrick Kennedy retired from his seat in Rhode Island in 2010 and Joe Kennedy III won election to Barney Frank's open seat in 2012).
