Am I, you’re at Leiden? That sounds awesome. Do you speak... whatever it is they speak over there?

Yes, it's quite nice.  I do have to learn Niederlands (Dutch), so I can take part in administrative meetings here, and I have made a start.  Since I speak German fairly well, I'm hoping Dutch won't be too difficult to learn.  But the program I teach in delivers all its classes in English, and English can used for lots of everyday living matters.  So, it's been a pretty easy transition.

Even corrigeren Tongue. But it's great to hear that you like it here! Professors in Tilburg constantly complain about how Dutch students are the worst though. Have you ever heard about the "zesjescultuur"? It's probably not as much of a problem at universities though, unless you teach law or business administration (I've heard terrible stories from friends who study "bedrijfskunde").

My biopsy results came in and it turns out that what was removed is indeed cancerous my doctor has scheduled surgery for next Thursday.

I'm heartbroken to hear that. I'm praying for your health.

I'm planning on asking a girl out on Friday. Even if she says yes, I have no clue what to do for a first date.

Wish me luck, Atlas Peeps. I'll need it.
Good luck!  Are you planning to ask her to lunch/dinner/coffee or to hang out?  I'd suggest a public(ish) activity for the first date until you guys get to know each other better.  My current girlfriend (going on 9 months and moving in together somewhat soon) and I went on our first date just for a beer at a relatively low key place, second date was appetizers on a patio and the third date was a movie at her place.  I think it made for a good mix/pace!
I think a coffeeshop is a good place for a first date. Assuming we can even find one we can both reach, considering she lives like a good 20-30 minutes from me.

Brilliant idea Smiley

I'll be contributing to research at a Dutch law school as an industry expert. Fun.

Leiden? You're a terrific fit for Minerva Tongue. But weren't you in finance? Erasmus University would make more sense in that case.

(I know you're probably not going to give the location of the university because of privacy reasons)

Anish Giri would draw 12 times vs Carlsen, draw the rapid games and finally draw the armageddon tiebreaker with black for the win Smiley. Sadly the reason why he could stand a chance against Carlsen is the exact reason why he won't win the candidates Cry. I went to look to Tata Steel Chess once in 2016 and Caruana played there but I can't really remember his game. He lost against Navara that day so I guess it's best for Caruana if Atlas posters just don't watch the world championship Smiley

Just finished my first year of teaching in Holland.  A lot of things to get used to in terms of the school system, both graduate and undergraduate.  But I enjoy living here very much.  Beautiful environment, friendly people (though they become temporarily insane on bicycles), good colleagues and students, easy travelling to almost everywhere in Europe.  German and Belgian beers easily within reach. I even enjoy learning Dutch, though my conversational skills are coming along too slowly.  Life is nice now

Are you referring to the infamous middle-aged men in cycling clothing? They can get very annoying (or even agressive lol).
