Refusing to wait the traditional period, and just naming William as Prince of Wales now gets rid of a lot of pointless media speculation, and helps reinforce the transition (it certainly gave me slight vertigo for a moment). Seems like a good call.

It makes sense to me too.  Charles was only three years old when his mother became Queen and he became heir.  She made him Prince of Wales when he was 10, and his investiture was when he was 21.  Meanwhile, William is already 40 years old.  No point dragging this out.

George V had to wait 9 1/2 months despite being 35/36. But George IV had gotten it at a week old.

Yeah the fuss some are trying to make over the pen is ridiculous, if anything it humanises him.

A couple of pens from a dollar (or pound?) store probably would have worked much better for him.

Why are the showrunners releasing a new crazy plot angle every week now?

This week we had "Spice Girl attends Tory confidence and gets harassed by gay minister". Next week will be something like, "Tory MP caught burgling Harry Kane, claimed he needed money to buy Snickers".

The showrunners are going to run out of storylines to throw at us.

The American showrunners got really lazy when they had "Reality Winner" get busted for leaking classified information.

LOL, what are the odds that she doesn't even beat either of the 2 Prime Ministers who started in 1827 for tenure?

What's the record shortest tenure ever for a PM?  Asking for a friend

Funny enough, there was less than a year in 1827 and 1828 containing the 2 shortest, so there was almost a year of 4 Prime Ministers.

Yes, but a competent PM could slow the spread of the poison just enough to make the Tories' path back to power easier. There is a difference between 250 seats at a general and 300.
At the moment a recovery in the polls would get them nowhere near 250. Maybe 150. There is an odd cognitive dissonance at the moment where people are at once recognising the hole the Tories are in, but not at all realising the reality of what that would mean electorally under FPTP in a pretty unpartisan polity.

If there was an election tomorrow the Conservatives could quite credibly end up with 0 seats. Certainly there is a well above 50% chance they would come out behind both the Lib Dems and the SNP.

So basically Liz Truss killed the Queen, the UK Economy, and her party.

I wonder if many people think she killed the Queen. Her ratings are truly something.

BTW, I don't know it's be noted here yet, but the utter chaos of the fracking and/or confidence vote was started by Labor calling for a vote on extending the fracking ban.  The member of Labor who submitted the call--Ed Milliband.

Payback is a Mutha.

Chaos with Ed Milliband.

Well - it could be worse. At least we’ve disavowed Trussonomics as a country. Some people want to give it another try…

And so many dumbs thought Kasich was a moderate because he had a moderate personality compared to Trump and Cruz.

Walpole (first (recognised) Prime Minister and longest serving Prime Minister)
Perceval (only Prime Minister to be assassinated)
Truss (shortest serving Prime Minister)

All pub quiz answers for at least a couple of centuries, I would imagine.

Braverman has a great shot at being shortest serving home secretary followed by Braverman

Grant Shapps had only 6 days.

After a full fourteen hours, the tweet where the UK Prime Minister talks about "the UK's modern slavery system" is still up. I suppose this also classifies as thinking voters are morons? I just have no words.

Sark abolished feudalism in 2008, so the UK is very modern.

That so many Red Wall voters were conned into voting for him in 2019 reveals just how deep the pro-Tory tabloid rot goes.
The press have been hysterically anti-Labour for over a decade (including Corbyn’s 2017 election), the 2019 result was overwhelmingly down to circumstance and his own doing rather than the Sun printing an extra negative headline.

The media was especially anti Corbyn.

Maybe so, but the point you ignored is that was true for both the 2017 and 2019 elections when Corbyn was leader. Since his popularity fell so much in those two elections, it was mainly not the media but his own failures as party leader that caused it.

While the media was certainly not fair in 2017, they were more biased in 2019.

The writers have brought back a character from an earlier season whose storyline always felt underdeveloped and cut a bit short. This is where they get the whole cast together to do the final chorus (Dave's tenor part a special highlight) and give the series a feel-good send off. All that's needed now is the announcement that the new Chancellor is Frank Lampard.

The writers liked having 3 former Conservative Prime Ministers in Parliament, so since Boris Johnson left, they had to add Cameron back in.

The GOP is catching up with the Tories in how many House Leaders they have had since 2015, and the Tories are responding by saying “we will have more PMs than you have House Leaders”

LOL, could Cameron get another shot at Prime Minister next year, or will he just be party leader after the next election because no one else is left?

Having 'grown up' with both William and Harry only in the sense we are similar ages, William just comes across as a parody of what people think the upper classes look like. From dress, to style. He's regressed; he comes across as less normal than he did a decade or so ago. We know nothing about him. We've always known what the King's interests have been (plants and porticos) for decades. William is just...blank.

I guess Harry doesn't seem so bad when you think about how William is basically a bot.

Seems like Liz Truss is trying to make a comeback of sorts but it's going about as well as her tenure as Prime Minister

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/feb/06/bring-the-popcons-out-liz-truss-is-the-entertainment-that-keeps-giving

Another opportunity to savour the latest incarnation of one of UK’s shortest-reigning prime ministers

And with her usual inimitable timing, doing it in the same week as we're reflecting on mortality and the royal family.

Well, the other Liz lasted only 2 days after meeting Liz Truss.

Out of curiosity, why does the British press hate Megan Markle so much?

I wonder whether racism is at least a part of it. Or because she's not originally British?

Edward VIII had to abdicate because he wanted to marry a divorced American. So maybe that's part of the reason. Of course Wallis Simpson turned out to basically be a Nazi.
