Not to seem like a copycat but

I'll take Illinois and UTEP this weekend, and will pick the rest later.

Real good special teams play there, Nebraska!

(If you're not watching the game, that's sarcasm.)

Are you referring to the safety, the missed extra point, or the 26-yard punt?

I posted that right after the safety, but it was clearly a harbinger of things to come.

The two missed extra points.

By the way, by even trying an extra point on that last one, Scott Frost might as well have been screaming "I don't understand statistics".

I-N-I!!!!!

Went down to the game with the family yesterday! Was able to stay in the shade to stay as cool as possible. Felt fantastic to be among the first to welcome back college football as we love it, and finally SHUTTING UP the HATERS who all pegged Illinois as a 3-9 bottom feeder felt AMAZING. Illinois should hopefully be a much more competent program now having a proven, competent college football coach.

They beat Nebraska, who are probably the worst team in the Big Ten West, lol. Illinois is probably second-worst, although the Big Ten West is actually pretty decent this year.

Purdue vs Oregon State is a huge game for both conferences and will be a better indication of where things are.

Get your licks in now, buddy.  Absolutely enough resources at Illinois to be a HELL of a lot better than we’ve been, and Bert is off to a great start.

The track record for coaches who did well at one job and then flamed out at their next job is not good for their next job after that. Bert is yesterday's man; I expect very little from him, and last weekend didn't do anything to change my thinking.

I think the road game at Virginia will be a much better clue as to whether Illinois is going to have at least six wins this season.

Illiniwek and I are 5-0 in the games so far, with a bunch of people at 4-1 and a couple stragglers.

Ouch, poor Memphis once these Big XII invites go out to Cincinnati, Houston and UCF. A solid two-sport program completely abandoned and left outside the P5 order.

SMU could be a decent second name for them in the conference but they are too up-and-down to be sure of their future.

I think the conference should just split and get better geographical alignment (along with C-USA and Sun Belt to ease travel), but the legal difficulties of dissolution and reformation while maintaining bowl tie-ins may be too much to overcome so we will probably get a very ugly AAC.

James Madison was desperate to move up for years waiting out for the American and their budgets were in line with the conference thanks to high student fees, but I don't know if that's sustainable in a post-COVID world. Still, the attention/brand brought in by successful transitions by Liberty and Coastal make you think they have to consider. Probably the top option.

Other than that, Old Dominion and Charlotte have bigger budgets than say Coastal and Appalachian State...but I think you need to capitalize in those existing football brands and see will continue to upgrade their other sports to get on par. Would they event want to? Going to be very interesting.

Upset Alert!

Twelve and half minutes to go, and Virginia Tech leads #10 North Carolina 17-7.
