This links back to Trump and top aides (esp Gates since he stayed on after Manafort left). Obstruction, failure to report criminal activities, potentially aiding and abetting, and this doesn't even touch Page, DT Jr., and the other associates yet.

Who’s Rick Gates?

But seriously, I’m happy justice is being served.

Was essentially the deputy campaign chair when Manafort was the chair. Stayed on after Manafort was pushed out. Was on Trump's inauguration committee and currently works for one of the Trump outside PACs.

Ah ok

Thanks!

Safe bet that it links to this as well http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/investigators-follow-flow-money-trump-wealthy-donors-russian/story?id=50100024

Huh.

Also, was the charge of conspiracy against the US money-based or based on something else? Do we know yet?

Yes. On page 23 of the indictment, the conspiracy against the US charge is based off of defrauding the govt including DoJ and DoT.

Page 29 and 30 include forfeiture clauses to include the govt taking away and selling PM and RG's properties in VA and NY as well as his life insurance policy. Putting the screws to them.

The Papadopolous indictment is more devastating as it relates directly to Trump-Russia collusion.

Yeah, it's probably Elmo-worthy all by itself.

It seems that GOP talking points now is to talk about Manafort ("not related to the campaign") in order to bury the Papadopoulos story (which is related to the campaign).

Yes, Manafort, the CAMPAIGN MANAGER AT THE TIME, is not related to the campaign. GOP has all the brightest excuses, /sarcasm. Excuse me for not loving the sight of all the rats leaving the sinking ship.

MSNBC reporting from their sources that the SP is pressuring Flynn to release more details and save himself and his son more charges or be granted lesser charges (pitting the father against the son). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZMS_2baakE

Only one count. Wow, this is light.

Flynn charged with one count of making false statement

http://www.cnn.com/2017/12/01/politics/michael-flynn-charged/index.html

Mueller is making another statement here. Cooperate like Flynn and he’ll go light, play hardball like Manafort and he’ll bring down the hammer!

We have our star whitness!

Sounds like it. Flynn might get away with so much, which is frustrating, but if the bigger players get theirs, I'll be happy.

He's going light due to his service record and the fact that he is willing to cooperate. This also, may be the first charge of more to follow.

18 U.S.C. § 1001(a) False statements (Flynn's charge):

"shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years or, if the offense involves international or domestic terrorism (as defined in section 2331),[8] imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both...."

Not much wiggle room but they may cut him a deal for a short stint due to his service record. Judge Rudolph Contreras is assigned per the charge at https://www.justice.gov/file/1015026/download

If he were to fire Mueller, there are almost certainly some state level DAs who could prosecute under state law, where his pardoning power doesn't apply... and pardoning yourself goes so far beyond any constitutional norms that the Supreme Court would likely rule it invalid.

Ah, I forgot about the possibility of state charges. That's pretty intriguing.

Mueller has been in contact with New York AG Eric Schneiderman through almost the entire process.

To make sure Trump can't pardon any offenders. If charged with a federal crime, he can pardon. If charged with both federal and state, they would still be on the hook.

He sang like a bird. Trump is going down.

I doubt it. Trump can easily just fire Mueller at any time. And even if he doesn't, there will never be 2/3 of the Senate that votes to convict, even if Dems win the House and impeach him.

Don't be so sure of that; the Senate GOP could easily turn on him.

Nah. I'm not even sure Susan Collins would vote to remove him. Any Republican who does vote for removal would lose their next primary in a rout. Though since that will be happening to Collins regardless, why not?

Or they would get Pence who would just as likely approve their agenda. If this gets even dirtier, expect GOP reps and senators to flip. It could just as easily backfire on them if they don't support impeachment especially in the midterms.

This looks bad regarding obstruction of justice:

Yikes. That’d explain why McGahn spent two days being interviewed. Between this and some of “his” judicial picks falling flat lately I wouldn’t be surprised to see a new WH Counsel in the first part of 2018

The Logan Act has never been the basis of a successful conviction and likely won't under Mueller wants to create precedent (which I'm perfectly ok with with this case). Flynn won't get hit with Logan because he struck a deal, however.
