Option one is the only correct answer, as far as I can tell. They were really on the ball this time.

Much better than that whiner Blanco, who f'd it up big time and blamed it all on Bush.

He is setting himself up quite nicely for re-election in 2011.

A job well done, and I congratulate him.  Blanco clearly WAS a disaster.  So was Bush/Brownie.

Question is -- Has Ray Nagin done anything to redeem himself?

JS, I still think it's unfair for people to call Bush "uncaring". I just don't see him as that type of individual personally. I think a lot of his missteps the past eight years have been caused by those he has surrounded himself with. That's probably why he's had so many shakeups and firings in his term.

And if he runs against Mary Landrieu for senate.

The question is if Bobby can break 60% against her.  The race is reminding me of Brown-Dewine already.

Jindal handled it great, though the fact that there was much less damage than Katrina helped.

He is setting himself up quite nicely for re-election in 2011.

He is setting himself up quite nicely for a presidential run in 2012 or 2016.

I thought it was very good, not quite excellent. Honestly I also rate things by how the further downs do if it was how hard he tried and his plans it would be an excellent for sure.

I don't think he is uncaring.  I don't think his Dad is uncaring.  His mother is another story.

But as to his compassion, he may have loads of it.  But he either fails to put it into action or he does so with utter incompetence.  Brownie is a good example.  I'm sure Bush felt sorry for the victims of Katrina.  I am not so sure he was thinking with compassion or common sense when he appointed Brown to head FEMA.  The guy has zero qualifications.

What I don't know about Bush is -- does he have "Reagan compassion".  Reagan was famous for seeing a need or a disaster, feeling terrible about it, writing a fat check to help and then insisting government had no business in addressing the need.  I respect that.  I disagree about government's role, but I have heard enough people -- liberals and conservatives -- say Reagan had  a big heart.  I don't get the impression The Decider does, but that's purely speculative.

Ironically, I think his father has compassion in spades.

There was nothing really to be done aside from encouraging everybody to leave, and it's not like it took that much persuading after Katrina.

This storm fell apart before coming ashore and didn't hit NOLA. I guess everyone's alright, but Jindal can't take that much credit.

Nevertheless, Jindal worked amazingly hard to prepare for the hurricane. That much deserves recognition.

Well, anyone can prepare for a hurricane, we see it on a satellite picture from hundreds of miles away. Sure, we are only accurate up to a couple of hundred miles, but that should be enough notice.

Blanco is hardly the only person responsible for the Katrina failures.

I never said she was. I said she did an unimpressive job preparing for the hurricane. Bush screwed up badly in appointing Brown to head FEMA, but that wouldn't have been nearly as big a deal if Louisiana had been better prepared for Katrina.

No, I just decided to use the same wording.
