"I think this President has shown a remarkable disrespect for his office, for the moral dimensions of leadership, for his friends, for his wife, for his precious daughter. It is breathtaking to me the level to which that disrespect has risen."

-- John Edwards, quoted by the Raleigh News & Observer in 1999, on Bill Clinton.

Shouldn't they be finding a hipster token minority to be there nominee in 4 years after Obama loses?

True, but still made me laugh:

Its the first ladies and the Veep selections that I will use to help me judge between the two.  As of right now, and based on my views (neither one of them) my girlfriend's lean (McCain), and to keep peace within the relationship, I may have to vote for McCain myself, but I'm still not sure.

I seriously hope this is a joke.

Well, it's a joke poster, so...

Calling it the "Dirty south" is  atrocious and anyone using the phrase should be punished with jail time.

Denied. Do so would be a violation of Free Speech. Neither the Federal nor Regional Governments have the power to do so.

Well, since I am fond of older women, I would have to say that it is hard to make a decision. Especially since a woman who decided to sit on my lap and play kissy face at a Halloween party with me last year bore some resemblance to Mary Louise-Parker.

I'll give it to Diane Lane.

Josh, in a thread regarding attractive woman, you put a picture of a male swimmer, robust and athletic. A poster on the forum, his name sounds like Kneedrone Bill, told me that he felt a bit offended by your terseness in posting what he called "attractive, albeit homosexually trending" threads in a thread devoted to attractive women.

Now, all bees and balls aside, can we please have separate threads on this stuff?

Thanks Josh

Classic, just like BO's post on Germany:

the opening act on a drama authored by Vlad Putin to reconstitute a Russian empire, with himself as emperor (in fact, if not in name).

he's gonna have a pretty tough time doing that given that NATO seems to be surrounding him to the west

Not really.

First, Russia will absorb Byelorussia.  No problem from NATO.

Then, they'll take back the 'stans.  Again, no real opposition from NATO.

Then, it will turn out that the baltic republics will somehow "provoke" the Russians, which will force the Russians to attack and aborb the baltic republics.

Question is, will a President Obama have the cojones to oppose Russia seeking to recover Alaska?

The question is, is WWIII with Russia inevitable?

1980 called.  They want their rhetoric back...they had it on loan from 1950, and 1950 called in the loan.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if Putin and Saakashvili had a conversation like that.

Hell no. First off I really don't want my country pissing off the Russians, secondly what's really the worst thing, realistically, the Russians can do? They aren't going to annex Georgia, since that would piss off the international community mightily and would probably give Putin a nice Chechnya style quagmire to shoot himself in the foot with. The most that they can do is lead to the fall of the Saakashvili government, and support the rise of some Shevardnadze-esque leadership. What's most likely to happen is that the country would return to a status quo ante bellum with improved protections for the South Ossetians from the Georgian government and an incredibly scared Saakashvili retaining power for at least the next couple of years. There might be some economic concessions, such as the creation of a Russian interest in some of the Caspian Sea oil pipelines, but that's about all I can imagine the Russians pulling for.
How naïve. Do you really think the war is about South Ossetia? Russia really doesn't give a damn about the wellbeing of the Ossetians and is using them as a pretext for ridding Georgia of its pro-Western government. The Russians, even their diplomats, have made it more than clear that they will not allow Saakashvili's government to remain in power. Putin's ridiculous accusations of genocide and "ethnic cleansing" against Georgia seems to me an indication that they won't only overthrow Saakashvili, but could even try to put his government on trial for those supposed crimes. And if Russia manages to pull this off with impunity, none of its neighbors will be safe or free, a huge setback to democracy and a long-term threat to America.

Such is life. America does the very same things.

When?

If heroin is legalized in Atlasia, let me tell the Senate what would happen.  We would have thread after thread of incoherent, aggressive rambling, violent conflicts, and social breakdown.  We would have threads like, "Opium Den," "Opium Den 2," "Opium Den: Kingdom of the Crystal Heroin," "Young Opium Den," "Bride of the Opium Den," "Opium Den: Junkies of the Lost Ark," "Opium Den: American Heroin-Induced Graffiti," and of course, the most epic series of threads, whose continuing longevity will ruin Atlasia forever, "Opium Den: The Heroin Menace," "Opium Den: Attack of the Methadone," "Opium Den: Revenge of the Junkies," "Opium Den: A New High," "Opium Den: Heroin Strikes Back," and "Opium Den: Return of the Pushers."
