On, economics, they are right-wing, which is the most important measure IMO.

Right-wing? Sure. Libertarian? No. Ask one of them about decentralizing economic production or ending subsidies to Big Business, and they're apt to stare at you glassy-eyed with confusion.

That is left-libertarian, right-libertarians have no problem with it to an extent.

(Psssst: which is why they aren't really libertarians.)

The ideology has many forms, just as conservatism and liberalism do. A pro-labor liberal and an environmentalists, while different, are still no doubt liberals.

Heh. Well, I say that one form has dominated for long enough in our rhetorical discourse, and I mean to do something about it.

And so do I, after I kick Vepres ass I shall end the Midwest Government's love affair with corporatocracy.

Vepres, you have no chance and never did. That being said, I never attacked you until you attacked me.

The fact is that people I have brought here are now major players, including a cabinet member. I was instrumental in getting members such as Einzige and Winston Disraeli to be active. The Northeast Assembly would not exist without many people I invited, meaning people like cinyc would probably not be very active, having no opportunities.

Xahar, as well, gets credit. His recruiting brought many of the more active members of today into the fold, and I applaud him for that. Tmth, as well. And bgwah.

Thank you. Smiley

Wow, this is thread is train wreck! Some of you guys take this game way too seriously...

You know elections are now probably the worst thing about this game. Every single time you get threads of stuff like this.

Just wait for the court cases. Wink

Honestly, I'm not quite sure why this happens every time. I have been posting substantive, longer replies, but everyone seems to ignore them, preferring to throw meaningless attacks instead of discussing political theory and all that. And of course, I can't resist responding to attacks on the DA. I tried. I think I have three long posts or so in here that no one responded to at all. Oh well. *shrug*

Nobody wants to reply to long substantive replies. I've thoroughly discredited Xahar's anti-JCP attacks numerous times. He simply ignores all of my points and continues to engage in attacks. His attitude is representative of much of Atlasia.

While Mint's voters have the most party loyalty, their second preferences are the least "organized."

Official Ballot

[6] Badger
Jesus Christ Party

[3] Afleitch
Democratic Alliance

[ ] Barnes
Democratic Alliance

[ ] DWTL
Regional Protection Party

[ ] AHDuke
Regional Protection Party

[ ] Vepres
Independent

[1] Mint
Atlasia Reform Coalition

[5] Sewer Socialist
Leipist National Front

[4] Write-in: Fritz

[2] Write-in: Al

[7] Write-in: cinyc

[ ] None of the Above

Here is a copy of my ballot. I voted for the candidates I felt most competent to serve as Senators and did not take into account partisan affiliation. If more people can do this, we will have a better Atlasia.
I resent your claim that I am not "most competent to serve as a Senator". Grin

Lewis, I didn't even see your declaration...

I thought only Al and ilikeverin and Sewer declared from the LNF.

I had no intention to campaign. Or to win. Though I would have served if elected, and actually would have the necessary time to be a model Senator the next two months.

Of course, I wasn't aware I was after the deadline and wouldn't be listed on the ballot.

Apparently I am running for Senate, or some such nonsense.  I never check the LNF boards, perhaps I should.

That doesn't look like a "declaration".

Its open to interpretation.  When qualified with "apparently" and "or some such nonsense", it sounds like you are simply acknowledging that someone else declared you.

Well, considering most of the people in your party are right-wingers and your candidate is a pretty standard conservative, I have a hard time believing that.

Standard conservative? I didn't know we were running officepark.

This. What "standard conservative" wants to do away with the War on Drugs, all but abolish the military, do away with the penal system as we know it, and decentralize the economy? He's relatively conservative compared to the mainstream ARC base, sure, but light-years beyond the typical RPP candidate.

O Rly?

True, although in fairness I do hold some culturally conservative views particularly on the issue of abortion (to some extent, I identify as a paleocon). Basically, in order for the party and the country to function I think you need some degree of federalism, otherwise those issues frequently are used to manipulate the public or expand government well past it's proper constitutional boundaries (cases in point: gay marriage; gun control). Making those local issues, while obviously problematic in some ways, avoids much of that.

For further edification, let's look at the actual ARC platform for social issues.

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=104806.msg2228429#msg2228429

From what he's said, Mint appears to be just a pro-weed, but otherwise generic isolationist conservative.

And even by those standards he's particularly right wing on economics. For all the sloganeering about taking on the "corporatists", the heads of corporations in boardrooms across Atlasia are stroking themselves with glee at the thought of Senator Mint diligently working to eliminate laws limiting their distruction of the environment, taking advantage of consumers, accelerating global warming,  intimidating employee organization efforts, trying to eliminate competition and gain monopoly shares in the market, etc, etc.

People who believe they're voting for an economically conservative but socially liberal "libertarian" candidate are likely to be very disappointed to see how he votes in the Senate. (I'm looking at you, DC United) ;-) Still, Mint is undeniably a thoughtful guy, and if we both make it to the Senate I hope he'll surprise me by showing he really is something more than a pro-weed isolationist conservative. I just haven't seen much from him to indicate otherwise--yet.
