They're running a little behind schedule.  The last of the candidates was supposed to finish speaking at 3:30 Central, which is right now.

In my cavern where I work, I have been listening (more than watching).

My opinion:  Half of the candidates there sounded like kooks.  Best speeches were given by Mitt and Tommy Thompson (Brownback's wasn't terrible either).  Worst speeches were given by Paul and Huckabee, both of whom need speechwriters desperately, as their material was full of cliches, unorganized, just simply terrible.

That's all.

Are there going to be any projections of the results before they officially come in?

Estimate of the number of participants in the straw poll (won't have an exact number until the official results are released): 14,000

Fox News appears to be the only one of the 3 cable news networks carrying it live at the moment.

Ann Coulter doesn't like "any of them."

Must be waiting for Michael Savage's entry into the field.

What is with Ron Paul? Can someone honestly tell me? Earlier this year, most people had never heard of the man. I was familiar with him as a Republican Congressman from Texas...but why is such an unknown lackluster candidate lighting up the internet? It's unbelieveable.

He's tapping into an untapped movement, the anti-war libertarian Republicans.

Well that and libertarians are crazy...

Well, he, Kucinich, and Gravel are the only genuinely anti-war candidates. This means the anti-war Republicans don't really have much of a choice, as he is the only Republican to be anti-war. Also, he does get support from small-government conservatives and libertarians. Conversely, can oyu tell me what is with Rudy Giuliani, and why he is at the top of the field?

Part of it is that he gained a following from his 1988 bid. As for the youth support? Honestly, it beats me. When I was with the Phillies campaign I figured Paul would fade fast, but it's gotten bigger and bigger.

It's pretty sad that I'm so focused on the results of something that doesn't even matter.
