Hopefully we stay the hell out and don't give Israel a cent.

Hopefully we give Israel , air support

Not our business, not our problem. They're always fighting.

We can help Israel completely destroy Hamas

Who tf cares about Hamas? We have hungry people in America. We're not the world's police.

Please don't go full BG-NY...

Why should be bother assisting Israel here? What good does it do? This isn't going isolationist, this is understanding that Israel is a pariah that does nothing for us.. Why is this our business? Please tell me.

We should stand with Israel over Radical Islamists regardless of what other middle eastern nations think .

We should stay the hell out. Israel has also been weak in their Ukraine support.

Wow, what an absolute abortion of a thread.

What are the odds this is the beginning of the end for Hamas? I don't like the Israeli government at all but this isn't defensible in any way.

The right doesn't care about Ukraine.

You should know that by now. They're already propping up conspiracy theories that there isn't even a war at all ongoing in Ukraine.

Palestinians have the right to fight and resist apartheid state Israël, in fact they should, and everyone who does is a freedom fighter. They have my support. The oppression needs to end, and no one is interested in peace & diplomacy from the international community.

It's a series of deliberate massacres of civilians. No one has a right to do that.

Than why does Hamas do that?

Because they’re evil and want to kill Jews.

They're defending from a genocide being perpetrated on their people. Whoever attacks them is even irrelevant. Also its not jews, its Israeli people that occupy them. That's different, many Jewish people for instance condemn Israël as well. Many of my political idols are Jewish. Many of the greatest communists ever were Jewish.
.......

I don't even know where to begin with this one.

Energy prices will surge on Monday.

In the meantime, Biden already ran down the USA strategic oil reserve

Sorry, just felt the need to respond to this.

Neither Israel nor Gaza are oil producing nations. Unless you have news about an incoming attack involving Israel attacking Iran, I don't think Oil Prices will increase all that much.

The breakdown of Israeli and Saudi relations is likely, but I doubt the ongoing diplomatic negotiations were being priced in.

"For Oil, It’s Not 1973 Again – But It Could Still Turn Ugly"

There will be a short-term geopolitical risk surge since there is a chance Iran will be dragged into it.  I do agree that if Iran does not get dragged into it then the energy prices surge will subside but that will be some time from now until the energy markets are clear about that.

I read your article and again, I'm not sure where the "oil will surge on Monday to the point that Biden will need to look at the strategic oil reserve to combat it" is coming from. Will it go up a few dollars? Probably. But the underlying economic arguments on why its recently declined wont suddenly vanish.

Given advances in hand held weapons and their pionering use by the palestinians I guess it wont end.

If the pattern of previous battles holds up, they will entice or force the israelis into Gaza and chop them in urban warfare traps.

I have been a far bigger supporter of Ukraine than you . You got pissed at Ukraine when they celebrated the death of the Soviet Union and said stuff like that makes you not want to support Ukraine anymore

He's a Putin supporter who wants people to experience economic pain. Ignore him.

I gathered that from their posts in the Ukraine thread.

That's a remarkably lenient punishment for cheering on genocide

Hopfully not the Third World War.

Things have gone significantly downhill worldwide, since Covid made people go depressive and crazy.

Really no other choice at this point but for Israel to completely wipe Hamas out. These intermittent half measure responses over the years have clearly not made Israel secure.

All of this is very sad, and also very unsurprising. This part of the world has been at war for thousands of years and I don't see that ending in the next thousand.

A thought: what does Hamas really see as its core constituency? What does it see as its goals? We should not look at this purely from the perspective of territory, we should think of this in terms of political goals achieved or flunked, or neither (and not just short-term ones).
Even a conventional defeat might play into Hamas' hands, as Bibi and co could have difficulty getting their goals through in both Gaza and West Bank simultaneously, and the Arab World would be more outraged at what Israeli military actions unfold in Gaza than at Hamas' actions. If its mojo of fighting the Israelis is in better shape than at the start, and they aren't completely smashed, this might even be a net win outcome for Hamas, given they oppose normalization, and value cred as a premier anti-Israeli force in the eyes of the Arab street.
Of course, a messy outcome leaves room for both Hamas and Bibi to end up as net winners in the short-term. Long-term, is another story.

I don’t see Bibi coming out out this as a winner, he has clearly failed the Israeli population, I expect this will result in even more extreme parties coming out on the top. As for Hamas, I don’t expect a lot of survivors.

While it does feel a little crass for me to speculate about electoral implications, it does seem like this poses a strong opening for someone like Benny Gantz, who is seen as a credible national security guy.

The thing is, much like the second Intifada, an attack of this scale and viciousness ends the chances of any pro-concessions movement for a long time. So attacking Netanyahu on his failings as a security chief and promising effective action against the enemy might be a winning strategy for his top opposition.

The Middle East wasn't inherently any more violent of a place than, say, Europe, prior to 1945. This current tragedy is the result of decades of deliberate policy choices by the Israeli state.

No. You don't get it. Gantz, Netanyahu etc, this doesn't help any of them. This is the most radical right-shift in Israeli history.

My expectation is "nothing to see here, more of the same, nothing will change" unironically.

Younger people who haven't experienced the "Breaking News: War in the Middle East" multiple times would probably be more excitable.

This is horrific. I don't know how anything remains the same after this. Israel would be completely justified to vaporize the Gaza Strip from top to bottom, and frankly it must at the very least ensure that the Gaza Strip does not continue to exist as it does now.
Was a coinflip whether you would would take this stance or "the perfidious Jew must be beaten back" but I guess this form of bloodlust was slightly less surprising.

Hopefully we give Israel , air support

Israel isn't asking for any military support. This isn't Ukraine. Hamas is a massively outgunned, incredibly vicious enemy with no chance of victory but every chance of causing immense suffering. It's closer to 9/11 than Pearl Harbor or anything else, in that the attacked country will now take the gloves off.

The US is needed for exactly two things - regular Iron Dome replenishment, which is already assumed, and a firm grip on its UN veto pen. But this isn't their war and Israel doesn't want it to be.
