I'm guessing her "testimony" also includes archives of text messages and emails, which could be pretty devestating.

For all the celebration in this thread ("Trump associates are pleading guilty!!!"  "The evidence must have been devestating!!!" "WE're getting real progress" etc) ... I assumed she was now a felon

She actually pleaded guilty to some misdemeanors. Calm down dudes

This long sprawling criminal trial would cost her a ton of money in legal fees: even Trump is relying on donations from his supporters to cover his legal fees. She's facing all kinds of civil lawsuits from people like Dominion (which she might lose or have to settle); so she needs her money.

This plea was likely more of an effort for her to get this done, save some time & money, and move on. Because believe it or not, many people in the criminal justice system plea guilty just to get it over with, not because of actual guilt

They did not "overcharge", lmao. Powell absolutely knew that she'd be found guilty so she took the plea deal. It's as simple as that.

Yes . Powell was absolutely going to be found guilty .. that must be why the GA DA offered Powell low misdemeanor convictions instead of the many felonies with which Powell was charged

Yes... that is literally how it usually goes. What are you not getting here? If anything, this shows that Powell knew she was SOL and was going to get convicted on much more serious crimes

Powell is a little fish. They gave her an easy out in exchange for testimony against bigger fish. This happens all the time in conspiracy/racketeering trials. It’s not difficult to understand.

Nope. If Powell was SOL and was going to get convicted on much more serious felony, why would the DA not insist on a plea to one of the serious felony + probation? You say it's certain that Powell was going to get convicted of the felony that she committed. So why would the DA drop down to a misdemeanor when a felony conviction was certain?

It's a staple in criminal justice law (infact, it's something many on the left rail against; but i guess this situation is an exception) - people who are charged of serious crimes often plea guilty because they don't want the spectre of a pending case hanging over them, they don't want the hassle of numerous court appearances, they don't have the money to hire quality legal counsel etc

Dude, that's literally how the majority of plea bargains and felony criminal cases work. People are charged with felonies but are able to plead to a lesser charge which is usually a misdemeanor. Even people charged with violent felonies are often able to plead to something like disorderly conduct in a deal.

Is Powell really little fish though? Besides Trump, Rudy, and Meadows - Powell is probably the most recognizable person in the 19-defendant case, and she was one of the biggest faces of the "election denial" movement

She was Trump's lawyer and has to testify against him (for anything not covered by attorney client privilege, which includes planning a crime). That was worth dropping the felonies.

Per usual, you are looking at Trump's cases through the lens of electoral campaigning and the media, not the law,  in trying to claim she's one of the so-called big fish. Of the 18 indicted codefendants Sidney Powell was very much in the middle of the pack in terms of the number of indicted counts against them. Given the amount of testimony she could offer as Trump's former lawyer against both him and probably every other co-defendant, letting her plead to half a dozen misdemeanor counts seems like a pretty good deal for the prosecution. Not, as you superficially allege, an indication that the case is falling apart.

I for one welcome redban's (likely temporary) return to the forum, as his consistently laughing stock level posts offer great amusement.

Trump co-defendant Kenneth Chesebro rejected plea offer from Georgia prosecutors
The Trump campaign adviser turned down the offer last month, a source said. Sidney Powell, who had been scheduled to stand trial with him, pleaded guilty Thursday.

Quote
Trump campaign legal adviser Kenneth Chesebro turned down a plea offer from the Fulton County, Georgia, district attorney's office in its 2020 election interference case, a source familiar with the matter confirmed Thursday.

Chesebro, a lawyer who's charged with helping create a "strategy for disrupting and delaying the joint session of Congress on January 6, 2021," is scheduled to stand trial this week. He was initially to have been tried alongside former Trump lawyer Sidney Powell, but she unexpectedly entered a guilty plea Thursday morning.

Under the scuttled deal, which was first reported by ABC News, Chesebro would have pleaded guilty to a single felony racketeering charge, agreed to testify against the other co-defendants in the case, including former President Donald Trump, and paid a $10,000 fine, in addition to writing a letter of apology. The deal was offered under Georgia’s First Offender Act.

Chesbro pleads "Guilty"

Mark my words: Donald Trump will be convicted. He might not go to jail but will very likely get House Arrest.

Not saying you are wrong, but how can Georgia enforce a house arrest outside of the state?

Probably having his sentences run concurrently the DC sentences and agree to have him be remanded into any location the DC court approved off
