Now the judge is a jackass because of the donation? I should have learned my lesson after what you said about the DA.

The guy broke the American Bar Association Model Code of Judicial Conduct. We are counting on him to make decisions about people’s freedoms in Manhattan Supreme Court, and he is breaking his oath by donating to politics campaigns when he isn’t supposed to do. He is a jackass because he is supposed to be held at a higher standard, given the grave importance of his occupation
You may want to google what a “model code” is before you go on prattling nonsense.

Attend law school and you'll realize that the code is more like "guidelines" than actual rules.

Lets be honest, lying and cheating and stealing is OK as long as its done in a legal context.

Almost all indictments in this country are political in one way or another, Trump's not least of all, because prosecutors are elected, often partisan, politicians who run on platforms promising to indict or not indict specific categories of suspects or even specific categories of crimes. You'd think that the cavalcade of recent high-profile examples of this being abused would lead to some calls to change this, but apparently not.

No.  Just no.

Okay, almost all indictments in parts of the country where DA races are high-profile ideological barn-burners.

Okay, with that far reaching caveat, probably/generally.

The initial lack of the caveat is on me; I overestimated how much of the country has that dynamic in DA races (which is a bit embarrassing, frankly, because, as you probably know, I've proudly lived most of my life in the sorts of periurban-to-rural areas that tend not to). Thanks for the pushback.

One thing I really like about you is you are one poster who has a track record of being willing to admit when they've made an error, larger small, the latter in this case. That's so rare and precious for atlas.

It's "rare and precious" pretty much everywhere, I think.

Also to add to the above Judge Aileen Cannon is a registered Republican and donated $100 to Ron DeSantis' 2018 campaign. So her bias is quite a bit more obvious than the judge in this case.

Trump is such a lifelong tax-cheat that even in the middle of a hush money pornstar scandal, Trump and Allen Weisselberg still found a way to use his payoff money as a tax break. That speaks volumes to how comfortable and how long Trump has been cheating on his taxes and committing fraud. Just think about that.

They should spin this off into a Turbotax commercial.

"Don't know if you can write off the money you used to pay off a porn star as a tax break? Come to Turbotax, stay out of federal prison, and have more time leftover to own the libs on Truth Social"

This thread has the most bizarre gotcha attempts. And they all seem rooted in an expectation that other people are secretly also personality cultists for anyone who ever got some support.

Like we're all going to concede that justice is bad if it could also get Gary Condit in trouble.

"Oh you think Trump should be charged? I guess you think it's impossible for anyone to be innocent and want your hero Matthew Broderick charged." What? I don't care about that person.

It's ALWAYS projection.

National Review FINALLY speaks out what many DeSantis, Haley Supporters and other Anti-Trump People are thinking: The Alvin Bragg Case is just the beginning of Trumps Legal Woes.

In a few months the Bragg Case will be considered the "Good Old Days for Trump". That's why nominating him in 2024 would be a complete malpractice.

Fulton County will not only possibly indict Trump but his allies as well NYT Maggie Haberman is reporting.

This is from 2018, but now we know from the indictment that this meeting was about the hush money payment.

Omarosa claims that she walked in on Trump eating a piece of paper in the Oval Office and that it surprised her since he's a 'germaphobe'

Quote
The former White House adviser Omarosa Manigault Newman claims in her forthcoming memoir that she once saw President Donald Trump eating a piece of paper in the Oval Office, The Washington Post reported Friday, citing excerpts it obtained.

In the book, "Unhinged," Manigault Newman said she saw Trump chewing up a piece of paper given to him by his former lawyer Michael Cohen, The Post said.

"I saw him put a note in his mouth," Manigault Newman wrote, according to the newspaper. "Since Trump was ever the germaphobe, I was shocked he appeared to be chewing and swallowing the paper. It must have been something very, very sensitive."

White House aides "laughed at the assertion and said it was not true," The Post reported.

She said he was acting so strange the rest of the day. The Oval Office meeting is in the indictment.

Trump, Cohen Met in Oval Office to Go Over Finances, Indictment Says

Quote
Donald Trump allegedly met with his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to discuss parts of their "hush money" scheme in the Oval Office, according to the recently unsealed Manhattan indictment.

Trump was officially arrested by the Manhattan District Attorney on Tuesday afternoon and arraigned on charges relating to district attorney Alvin Bragg's long-running investigation into his alleged involvement in the hush money plan. According to the newly unsealed indictment, Trump has been charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records in an attempt to conceal a repayment to his former lawyer, who paid two women to stay quiet about affairs they had with Trump in the lead-up to the 2016 election. This included $130,000 paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges on Tuesday and is next scheduled to appear in court in early December as the case moves ahead. He has long denied that the affairs ever happened and dismissed Bragg's work as politically motivated. This is the first-ever criminal indictment of a former president in U.S. history.

^The walls are still closing in. They must have been really far apart to start with.

Maybe next year
Trump will be put out of business for good. And to be honest I wish the Atlanta Jury would charge you personally as well for spreading false Information after the 2020 Election + other people on Talk Elections who spread false Info about the 2020 Election as well.

I keep seeing stuff like "the first-ever criminal indictment of a former president in U.S. history". Where was this same sense of history when Donald because the first President in U.S. history to violate the Emoluments clauses? The first President in U.S. history to openly run a criminal organization from the White House? The first President in U.S. history to commit treason and attempt a coup?

The shocking thing is not that he's been charged with crimes, but that it took so long.

Well the reason I posted that is because it partially validates Omarosa's story which a lot of people didn't believe, and also sheds a new light on how serious Trump thought this issue was before it became known to the public.

Of course, of course.

Trump has Secret service protection and can't be thrown into jail as the last is currently written he can be put on an ankle bracelet but D's can change the secret service protection law when they get the Filibuster proof Trifecta to no on Convicted Ex Prez

Secret Service can't protect Prez when they are in prison that's why Prez are immune from Prosecution if they are thrown in a Community of prisoners that's why Trump won't get arrested and contained, he is the first Ex Prez to be Prosecuted

If he gets Convicted you cant Appeal and Acquittal Double Jeopardy and all white jury may do that but it's NY they Acquitted Michael Jackson and he was guilty an all white Jury, we know it won't be any blks but mainly white females on any jury

Trump or DeSantis aren't getting the Prez they are gonna lose by a landslide though white females are gonna vote for D's though look at WI results

He was indicted, how is that a nothing burger? Also the slowing down of the thread has to do with the fact that the trial isn’t until later this year so there isn’t much to post about until then

There's probably not going to be much news for a while. The next hearing is December. I'm sure we'll get some scoops along the way with leaks and such and maybe some motions. But yeah I think a slowdown is expected
