Personally, I consider Hispanic and Latino synonyms and Brazilians to count as Latinos because Portugal, like Spain, shares in Iberian Latin-derived culture and was part of Roman Hispania.
Brazilians may identify as Lusophone, but Lusophone is not a common term in America and there's enough common ground for them to count as Latino, given they are routinely classified as being part of Latin America.
This has to be one of the few areas I cut Santos any slack, given the man is a serial liar.

Wait, this guy also faked his first time?

Maybe I should move to the US and run for something as John Smith?

Devolder Santos??

You're misinterpreting.

He ran for Congress in 2020 as George Devolder-Santos and ran for Congress in 2022 as George Santos. Devolder wasn't his first name.

Ok, this is weird. He's just inventing a label here. To go boldly where no Santos has gone before!

If one wants to be picky with semantics, Euro African (or more correctly, European-African) would be someone of European descent that lives in Africa like Afrikaners. In reverse an Afro-European is a person of African descent who lives in Europe. In Santos' case he's a Brazilian-American who is Pardo (the term for mixed race in Brazil).

I owe an apology to George Santos and his black dad:

George Santos: actually half black. My bad.
Technically this means he's not Latino. If his father was born in Brazil then he is Afro-Lusitanic, not Afro-Latino and therefore Santos is not Latino, but Lusitanic. And his claim is that both of his parents were born in Brazil so I don't think there is any Latino heritage on his mother's side either. Granted, Santos probably didn't know the difference between Latino and Lusitanic like most people do, he still was pushing another inaccuracy for identity politics.
"Lusitanic" is not a thing. Brazilians are not Hispanic but they most certainly are Latino(-Americans).

At this point I'm half-expecting an announcement that this has all been an extremely bizarre piece of performance art.

Who cares about this. Politicians (such as Kamala Harris) lie all the time.

The NYT remains on the Santos case like a bloodhound, and today it is about the conversion of campaign funds to pay personal expenses, including rent for the house Santos was really living in, as opposed to pretending to live in, that was listed as for campaign staff, but only he and his husband where sighted there.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/29/nyregion/george-santos-campaign-finance.html

It's only a matter of time, as we all await the disclosure of where the 750K came from.

I agree. How is it that the Nassau GOP decided that this guy was their best option and let him go unopposed in the primary?

My speculation is that the GOP had become acclimated to losing in Nassau County, the seat that was drawn very late in the day was unexpectedly Pub (maps of both parties did not have such a seat), and the GOP romp was not anticipated until the backs on the machines were read after 9 pm on election night.

The issue with this line of thought is that the Nassau GOP swept the local elections in 2021. There may have been many events in between the actual wave of 2021 and the local wave of 2022, but the Nassau GOP were one group with actual evidence to convince potential candidates.

Which leaves one to wonder how much the unimplemented gerrymander affected things. NY-03 if one recalls was very Blue, with a chunk of Westchester tacked on. It's not hard to imagine that by the time the Nassau GOP saw that the suburbs south of Levittown were in the seat, Santos had charmed enough people with his lies to prevent any other serious entrants.

The Nassau GOP should fire their chairman and name bronz as successor.

So has anyone definitively determined whether Santos is actually an American citizen?
Seems like this should really be the first order of business in any investigations, since it is the one thing that could actually keep him from being sworn in to office next week.

I'm very curious what you thought about Obama's alleged birth certificate fraud.
