Dopey Raymond Lopez endorsed Willie Wilson instead of legitimate contender Vallas.  He's finished.  I need to know who Ald. Tabares is supporting.
Willie Wilson is going to be the kingmaker who prevents the election of Johnson and give Chuy a run for his money, so this is a wise move. Vallas is incredibly unlikable to go anywhere.

Paul Vallas is endorsed by the Chicago police union, which is not a surprise since he is trying to appeal to the remaining moderate and conservative white and Latino voters in the city...

https://www.chicagotribune.com/politics/elections/ct-chicago-police-union-fop-endorse-vallas-20230107-dwkgf2h6lbdqhoxhpqxcpsphpq-story.html

Ja'Mal Green has a pretty good plan for the city....I won't be surprised if the final five are Lightfoot, Garcia, Wilson, Green and Vallas. Any one can win.

But if Green is mayor, he'll spar with Aldermen Napolitano and Sposato.

Bronz, please acquaint yourself with Alderman Tabares, the real queen of CPD.  Sposato is old news.

Looks like Lori Lightfoot is doomed for good?

You're not supposed to do that, but I can see a Republican city mayor forcing every cop and firefighter to vote for him/her and every Republican president telling a service member to vote for them. It's not appropriate, but I don't think it warrants impeachment.

I mean she is trying to bribe every kid in the city to work for her campaign

Starting to wonder if Chuy is planning on running an actual campaign. He's got a lot of support based on name recognition right now but I've not seen one ad and his site doesn't even have an Issues section. No platform, no media buys... is this a strategy or was he just busy with the Speaker fight?

He’s running the same campaign he ran in 2015.  Chuy is lazy, unintelligent (read: St Rita grad) and plans on coasting to the office because its “Latinos turn”.  He has no policy platform.

IIRC from the Obama bio I read in high school (for fun) this was kinda Obama’s strategy when he ran for senate. Raise money and name rec then blast the competition away in the last few weeks. Fetterman did this just last year. So I’ll wait and see before making judgement

Inexcusable. She will do anything to win.

What's the deal? I don't see what she did wrong. You don't think Giuliani did this with the NYPD in 1997?

She's offering incentives to children if they volunteer for her political campaign. Regardless of the legality, this is just a weird and unethical move.

I'm sure that the police unions were all in for Giuliani's re-election.  There's a difference between a public employee union encouraging political activism and the Mayor doing it directly.

Lightfoot is an awesome failure.  If she is re-elected, why should any Mayor of Chicago believe that success is necessary for re-election?

Jonathan Jackson (new congressman and son of Jesse) for Brandon Johnson. Not following the race closely but this one surprised me.

So it’s looking like it’ll be Garcia/Johnson in the runoff?

Definitely seems to be some consolidation around Johnson as a mainstream alternative to Lightfoot.

More likely Lightfoot vs Garcia or Johnson.

Lightfoot just has not been a good mayor, she has no political future after this basically. She is made fun of physically by the right and some on the left....

She could still win if she cobbles support from Black voters and white liberals and a slice of Latinos...

We will see.

https://www.fox32chicago.com/news/chicago-mayoral-election-new-poll-shows-vallas-garcia-as-frontrunners

Stunning!  Paul Vallas LEAPS into the lead in this unbiased Republican poll.  Sorry, Johnson stans, its just not happening.  Chuy continues to drop as his campaign has no direction or purpose.  He's the only hispanic candidate in the race and can only get to 34% with them.  Thats terrible.

Vallas - 26% (Change vs Dec: +7)
Chuy - 19% (-9)
Johnson - 12% (+9)
Lightfoot - 10% (-5)

White:
Vallas - 31%
Johnson - 17%
Chuy - 15%
Lightfoot - 7%

Hispanic:
Chuy - 34%
Vallas - 28%
Johnson - 12%
Lightfoot - 8%

Black:
Wilson - 22%
Lightfoot - 18%
Vallas - 12%
Johnson - 9%

I will be interested in seeing how Lightfoot's voter coalition shifts compared to 2019. Her strongest areas of support in the first round last time were some of the most heavily progressive wards whose voters I'd expect to be primed to go for Johnson or Garcia. My guess is she will put up a comparatively stronger performance in the black-majority wards and maybe places like River North/Streeterville, where there are more upscale, non-progressive whites (though Vallas may also have a strong showing here).
