These kind of racial appeals are totally normal in the Chicago black community, so not sure why Lori is getting criticized for it!  This is Bobby Rush’s wheelhouse.

I detailed why in the comment above you. I get Rush doing it, these are his people, but this ain’t necessarily Lightfoot’s people

I saw.  I just figured there was a less racist explanation.

Lightfoot did not grow up in the south side of Chicago, she has not lived there, she has not worked there. Her life and background is very different from much of the south side. The only reason she thinks they ought to vote for her is cause she’s black and their black. She’s the epitome of what a lot of the black community’s biggest gripe about democrats is – that they come in take their votes and leave after the election.

Honestly, I was originally pulling for Chuy but after he endorsed Rossana Rodriguez's very questionable opponent I'm hoping Brandon Johnson can pull something off, no matter how unlikely it seems from what I know of the race's current dynamics. Just don't let it be Vallas or Lightfoot.

90+% chance it will be one of them at this point IMO

Who are you holding out hope for? Chuy? Johnson?

I’m probably going to vote for Chuy. I’m pretty uninspired by the field, though. Interested to see which two we end up with and then decide between them.

Brandon Johnson is a hard no from me. Take a look at his tax plan. It’s kooky.

I will say I'd be so appreciative of a Vallas-Garcia or Vallas-Johnson runoff, if only because it offers a break from Lightfoot either way and gives voters an actual tangible choice.

Vallas is the only one who represents any kind of change. Any other candidate would just continue the long slow decline. Also trying to build a campaign around black unity is not only gross and racist but also a poor long term strategy. Black folks are now a smaller percentage of Chicago than both whites and Hispanics.

I got it too. Preckwinkle hasn’t endorsed anyone. Would be very interested in what their angle is. Preckwinkle is a strong CTU ally - maybe assuming Lightfoot will be in and trying to push Johnson into the runoff at Vallas’ expense?

Really disappointing candidates and disgusting campaign this year all around. Can't believe I practically want Rahm back despite all the slimy stuff. Nobody in this race comes even close to his caliber. At this point it's just minimizing the damage and trying again in 2027.

Rahm was a disgrace--especially with the McDonald coverup. His actions led to Kim Foxx, etc.

Chicago has to live with the choices.

Has a incumbent mayor ever failed to make the runoff would Lightfoot be the first?

Chicago hasn’t had a runoff system for very long. Prior to the runoff system, Jane Byrne lost the Democratic primary to Harold Washington in 1983.

Washington's successor Eugene Sawyer also lost in the primary to Daley II in '89.

Lettuce pray that O’Shea loses in the 19th Ward.  The good people of Mount Greenwood are not happy with him.

And on the Northside, Lightfoot’s twink Knudsen needs to go down.

Why? O'Shea is a moderate Democrat....if he is not good enough for them, then they are truly far right people...

I'm most invested in the 46th and 48th Ward election results today, not the mayoral contest.

Did the notorious right wing Ricketts family, who owns the Cubs, make any endorsements? Usually sports ownership endorses politicians so they can keep or relocate their franchise out of the city....

Sometimes it’s less about left or right and more about whether you got your garbage can delivered on time. Especially in Chicago.
