The baffling (okay, not so baffling) thing is, the English media seem to still believe the England manager needs to be English, when an English manager hasn't won the English league in 30 years, and the only living English managers to achieve anything on the continent in that time are Steve McClaren and maybe Roy Hodgson, both of whom already had their chance. (Graham Potter arguably did some good things in Sweden, but it was a small club, and there was corruption involved)

Look, if you're going to pretend to be a Great Expert on all things football, please at least make sure that you get the basics right: Bobby Robson was famously very successful at club level in Portugal and the Netherlands in the 1990s.

I didn't know he was still alive.

Since Tite is out, media mentioned some possible names to be the new coach of the Brazilian squad: Jorge Jesus, Abel Ferreira, Carlo Ancelotti

There is some discussion related to a possible foreign coach since Dunga's failure in 2010. Many sports fans consider that Brazil still has some very good players, but the sqad fails to defead an European squad in the knock-out stage since 2006 because Brazil does bad in tactics, and our coaches are outdated. A foreign coach could be against our national proud: Brazil used to be known as the land of the soccer, and, in the past, there were many Brazilian coaches of other squads. The two Portuguese teams which reached the semifinals had Brazilian coaches: Otto Gloria in 1966 and Luiz Felipe Scolari in 2006. Now, we are considering the possibility of a non-Brazilian coach for the Brazilian team, who could be a Portuguese. But maybe we need to forget our pride since we are observing that the Brazilian team is falling behind.

A soccer power had already a foreign coach: italian Fabio Capello was already the coach of the English team

Argentina $1.85
Croatia $4.60

France $1.55
Morocco $6.50

That means a Croatia - Morocco Final pays $30 on a $1 bet.

I personally would suggest Jose Mourinho myself. It's not like he has anything left to prove on the club level, and he does speak Portuguese, which presumably would be helpful.

I am officially picking Argentina to beat either France or Morocco.

Lionel Messi will win the World Cup in his final international match. Book it.

This is half an hour ago in the Obelisco area, and there are still people walking or driving there still. Hell, I live like 10 blocks away and it feels like I'm there thanks to all the noise lol

I don't really care that much about Football but I guess at this point it's the only thing that is going well in this country. Can't blame people for getting really excited

Yeah, but Morocco really played a strong game and had at least three prime chances for a goal. Unfortunately, they had bad luck all three of them. I'm rooting for them out of respect for their passionate team to win third place against Croatia.

As for the final, I'm for Argentina. Sorry French neighbors.

interesting article on where World Cup players are born
some highlights:
1.there were 59 French born players in the WC, more than half played for African teams
2.42% of Africa's 130 players were born outside of Africa
3.overall, 16% of players were born outside of the country they play for

I am going for Argentina, but I know how deadly France are in attack.

Meanwhile, Moroccan fans cannot keep it together.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-12-15/world-cup-morocco-france-fans-clash-with-police-after-game/101778920

In Brussels about 100 football fans, some wrapped in Moroccan flags, briefly clashed with police in the city centre.

The fans threw fireworks and other objects at lines of police dressed in riot gear and set alight some garbage bags and cardboard boxes.

Police responded with tear gas and a water cannon.

There were similar scenes in Amsterdam, where more than 100 soccer fans confronted police.

This is really a lesser of two evils type of finals matchup

Rooting for France at the end of the day because Messi is a fraud and doesn't deserve a cup

You do realise how ridiculous you sound? Like one of those low-IQ Ronaldo cultist Twitter teenagers. I honestly feel sad for any football ‘fan’ who is too immature to appreciate how lucky they are in getting to witness one of the greatest ever to play the beautiful game.

Mbappé cultist here, reporting for duty. Better to look to the future of football as Messi and Ronaldo's careers wind down. I know this isn't what your post was about but there's some really good talent coming through, we're not going to go hungry when Messi retires.

Honestly, Messi vs Mbappe is probably the best final we could have asked for.

Uruguay 2010 were the opposite of a popular squad, lol. They were the most hated team in the tournament by far.
