Tobacco, unlike food, clothing, and water, is a luxury. It is a completely optional tax, you can elect not to pay it by simply not consuming tobacco. While for some that's easier said than done, it's a source of revenue to help pay for our social programs while incentivizing people to avoid partaking in such a harmful practice.

I will not lower taxes on the evil tobacco industry, whose relationship to the rest of society may best be described appropriately as cancerous. If anything, we should use the extra money to redouble our anti-smoking campaign.
