What happens now? Do the projections get updated as actual votes get counted?

This is supposed to have national results, but right now it's only displaying them by Department.

No surprise, Jadot endorses FBM as well.

As does Pecresse

Legislatives are going to be really interesting: will PS and LR incumbents follow their candidates into political graves?

I feel like if they make it in to the run off against a RN or LFI candidate they’ll probably be okay, the question is whether they can get enough to do that.

Are we getting the hyper-detailed demographic breakdowns we got in 2017?

Melenchon negatively endorses Le Pen 3 times, essentially telling his supporters to abstain or vote Macron without uttering his name. Also hints that this is his last run.

By good FP I mean he’s  the only president not to hate on America when we do stuff but then expect us to be a sugar daddy for them .
You're right. They should've paid their debt and sent French soldiers to die in Iraq. How dare they criticize us for starting a war based on lies?

Mélenchon is insane. He starts off by saying that "the system causes you to pick from the lesser of two evils. Each of you has to consult your conscience as you make this choice," but then warns his supporters against "giving in to their anger," which can at least start to be construed as "don't vote for Le Pen in a fit of populist rage," & tops it all off by explicitly shouting "Madame Le Pen should not get a single vote!" not once, not twice, not thrice, but 4 times. For a man so clearly willing (if this one crazy speech means anything) to say literally anything, he'd really rather die than say "vote for Macron."

In any event, denouncing her so forcefully seals it for Macron, IMO. Short of that explicit endorsement that'll never happen, this is the best breathing room that Macron could've possibly asked for right now, given the understanding that it'll still be close.

I think they will post a link when a significant amount of nationwide votes are counted. I think that was the case in 2017.

This is a poor result for the French left and for the French workers. Melenchon, for all of his many flaws (he's an HP), would have challenged Macron on his ruthless neoliberalism with the usual Melenchon flare and campaign skill. Would have been fun to watch. I still would have preferred Macron to win do to foreign policy reasons that Antonio has so wisely elucidated, but it would have been better for France for a real debate on economics. Now we will get two weeks of immigrant bashing and endless debates on culture and national identity, while the real questions of the wealth gap, social conditions and stability, and working class livelihoods go unanswered. If there is any consolation, the combined left did alright.

Obviously, Macron has my full and unambiguous support in the 2nd round. Le Pen must lose, and I'm optimistic she will. Macron beat her quite handily in the first round.

France and Germany literally tried to form an alliance with Russia in 2003 so it just wasn’t about sending troops . They were explicitly anti American at that point and treated us as we were the villains  guys in Iraq rather than Iraq just being a mistaken intervention

Saint-Pierre and Miquelon 🇵🇲 goes for Mélenchon a bit more than last time:

2022
Mélenchon 40.91%
Macron 19.77%
Le Pen 16.99%
All others are below 5%

2017
Mélenchon 35.45%
Le Pen 18.16%
Macron 17.97%
Fillon 9.92%
Hamon 8.24%
All others are below 5%

New Caledonia 🇫🇷/🇳🇨 has a lower turnout than last time; I haven’t delved into the numbers, but I suspect that Kanak areas probably had worse turnout that before.

2022 - total votes for candidates: 72,967
Macron 40.13%
Le Pen 18.83%
Mélenchon 13.77%
Zemmour 9.13%
Pécresse 5.88%
All others are below 5%

2017 - total votes: 86,942 (might be off by a couple voters)
Fillon 31.13%
Le Pen 29.09%
Macron 12.75%
Hamon 9.34%
Mélenchon 8.86%
All others are below 5%

That's a rather Trumpist understanding of what NATO is. America isn't a "sugar daddy" but rather an actor that understands perfectly well that its geopolitical power will suffer a serious blow when it loses Europe. And Europe has good reasons not to count on America too much. Too often America has taken our participation for granted in its adventures around the world. Frankly it is about time that we start embarking on a more sovereign course. And in that regard Macron may disappoint not me, but you.

I wonder if people like Ciotti will bite the bullet this time and endorse Le Pen rather than be silent. LR are finished so they’ve nothing really to lose.

You’re right but it’s sad, a more powerful Europe is one with less incentive to work with us.

How is this even offensive. Not everyone has to be as jingoistic and apologetic as you.

It’s where he represents + Bayrou did well there in 2012. I guess they must like centrist outsiders.

Perhaps if someone had Melenchon's campaign skill and Hamon's positions and demeanor, they would have made the 2nd round, and given us a real runoff based on economics. This is really upsetting actually.

Roussel on domestic policy, Hidalgo on foreign policy.

Gross

Anyway, glad that Meluche prevailed in the end and is set to be the undisputed choice in parliament among the French Left™️. He did so by realizing who he should be talking to, and who would reliably support him, and that isn’t appealing to the s•••lib twitterati. He has a good chance to make a mark in 2027 now that he didn’t disappoint his base by sinking with Macron.
